Hi all,

I've been looking through my smurfs of this model. DSK lists version 4 as being made of orange material (p61). I don't have this version and wondered if anyone else does. Also is this a genuine version (seems odd) or is this one that's been caused by fading do people think?

Thanks
Helen

Hi Helen, I know the one you mean. I haven't had a chance to check my Papa Conductors since they got packed away but I don't think any of mine match this one.

As for whether it is a genuinely different variation or just a faded smurf is hard to tell. I have had a quick scan through a few collection sites and haven't found an obvious variation like this............ hmmmmm.......... :sherlock:

Anyone have one or know any more? :?

Great topic by the way. :D

Why is it called "common sense" when it is so rare.......

Hi Helen

I thought I had this one but when I noticed the price in the DSK last year I checked it again and realised that it probably wasn't the one I thought it was. My one looks to be just faded and wasn't advertised as rare or anything but I now know that it's definately not the orange PVC variation.

I have never seen one myself and the chances that the PVC is just a faded red could be very possible. I will post a pic of my faded one later tonight...it's not as orange as the pic in the DSK though.

Here is the pic of the one I thought was the orange one next to a normal red one. As I said above I have since ruled out this being the orange one as it doesn't look the sameas the one in the DSK.

Cool pic Dyar, you can definitely see the difference in colours. :D

I wonder if this one really exists?

I know Pete has been recently doing an experiment with trying to prove whether the yellow mushroom smurf is actually just a faded red one. Might be worth trying the same with this smurf. :-?

Pete emailed me recently to say he wondered if the rare orange Papa Conductor was just a sun fade. He's tried sun fading the new Papa but so far nothing has changed. I would think he will report more of his findings soon at the Shroom Room.

Thanks guys.

I have a smurf like yours Dyar (ie much less red) but wouldn't say had ever been orange.

It was the yellow mushroom that made me wonder, shall look forward to his findings

The pic of the orange Papa Conductor in the DSK doesn't look right though...it looks either painted or computer generated.....what do you guys think?

DUH!!! :sillyme: I've been scratching my head lately wondering what a DSK was, I thought it was some new book Rachel and Dyar were talking about. I tell you I am half asleep lately. :) :)

Very hard to tell. I can see what you mean about the pic looking a bit odd, I can't put my finger on it either. I haven't got my older katalogs to hand to check to see if they have used the same pic, it could just be looking this way as the pic has been maybe sharpened or improved. :scratchinghead:

This is supposed to be such anorange conductor. Picture isn't really clear, I have to say, but the price is high enough. No bidder names thogh, so if it are real bidders or shill?
:sheep: Bored of normality, why not go smurf? :sheep:

LOL Karen....I was been speaking to her lately and she has been great to talk to. She sent me some amazing pics of her collection that I can only dream of owning. I believe that she has always been honest when selling her smurfs so maybe this is an orange PVC Conductor.....hard to say from the pic.

Sirry to imply that she sin't honest. I have never dealt with her. It's just that I'm weary of auctions where the pic isn't too clear, and the bidders are hidden. I'm glad that she seems to be allright!

Oh no it is best to be honest Fram! The thing is that people may have been thinking the same as you and if someone knows them to be honest and states that then it can only go in their favour I think. :D

Then again there is a difference in what people believe too...same as I believed that I had the orange one when now I am sure I don't. I believe her to be an honest seller and I also believe that she is quite knowledgable when it comes to smurfs but without seeing it in person then I could never gurantee that this is the one mentioned in the DSK. I hope it is though as I have never seen one before and it would be cool to know it is actually out there.
