If this isn't the right place for this thread, then please move it. Still finding my way around. :D

In my intro thread, my footballer smurf was spotted. On closer inspection he does seem to be more of an orangey red with white shorts.

(When we were little I marked all my smurfs with Hs so that they wouldn't get confused with my brother's.)

Then I had a brainwave and checked my brother's smurfs. I'd only taken pictures of the ones of his that I didn't already have. He has an orange shirt with yellow shorts:

He also has..... a RED shirt smurf! Red shirt, white shorts and black socks. There is a white dot on the red shirt and I don't whether this is meant to be a pocket or an emblem or just a painter's mistake.

If he says I can have all his smurfs, then I will probably be open to swapping the red one if anyone's interested. I'm not that bothered about football!

I should also add that they need a good clean! They were much loved and much played with. :D

Hi Hilary, firstly, great pics and nice smurfs. :-D

It so happens we were talking about football smurfs a couple of days ago and Sue had mentioned the same variation that you have there -

Lighter red shirt and socks, no white dot on shirt and yellow dot on foot.

Here is the thread. :D

http://www.forum.bluecavern.com/viewtopic.php?t=10379

I don't know how much you know about the football smurfs but here is a very basic summary. There are many smurfers here who know a lot more about football and the various football smurfs so I am sure someone will fill in if I leave any blanks.

You have the normal colours - red (can be quite orange) shirt / yellow shorts

Then there is a huge variety of Bundesliga football smurfs from Germany in various colours but these have no yellow dots (this is generally a UK thing) and no dots on shirts.

The football smurfs with the dots (yellow on foot and different colours on shirts) are generally thought to be UK variations with a couple of other different countries. These have been wrongly identified in the past in the Der Schlumpf Katalog as USA teams. The red one you have without the dot is an odd one which we were trying to figure out.

The football variations are lovely smurfs to have and although not mega rare, they are definitely sought after by collectors as they were not available in lots of countires. :-D

Why is it called "common sense" when it is so rare.......

Wow! You can really get into this can't you? Thanks for the info Rachel. :D For the record, all the 3 I pictured above have yellow spots. I don't think I want to trade them anymore!

Great photos Hilary :D You have exactly the same footballer I was puzzled about the other day :-D It's a bit confusing as I now think there are 4 footballers with red top, white shorts and red socks - same but different :)

I love collecting smurfs in their different colours and I think this footballer is probably available in more colours then any other smurf - someone will correct me if I'm wrong :-D
Maybe you are more of a rugby fan?. Is see you (or your brother :) ) have the New Zealand one. This smurf also comes in different colour kit of different countries. Some people here have them all, and when you see them all lined up together they really do make a nice display  - so I'd definatley keep hold of your different footballers :D

Oh I will! I'm well and truly bitten by the bug now! :beersmurf:

I've found one I'd forgotten and an old (and scuffed) one that I hadn't taken pics of. So here they are.

This one has yellow top with a black dot and yellow socks and black shorts and the necessary yellow dot. :-D

This is the old one. It doesn't have any markings and no yellow dot.

Years ago there wasn't a referee or trainer smurf so Andy Capp stepped into the breach. He's a bad influence but the smurfs love him and after nearly 30 years with them he's not going anywhere.

It was my brother who was the footballer/rugby fan. Although we have 4 different footballer smurfs between us I'm not sure now whether that was by accident or design.

I would love to see that if anyone has any pics or can direct me to them.

Thanks Beers. :D I should then clarify that my yellow/black smurf is really gold in colour.

It makes sense that my brother had the red strip one because he supported Nottingham Forest as a child. He's got the wrong socks though.

Wow! Thank you. I hadn't realised there were so many! Love your little green boxes for them! :D

Do you think that my old smurf is an Argentinian one? Or is he fake? I must have had him 20/25 years at least.

Off to look at the rest of your site now! :-D

Hi Hilary, regarding your older, white and black kicker smurf. We have had several discussions in the past about certain smurfs with no markings and the kicker smurf 2.0068 was one of them. There seems to be a variations of this one that although has no markings could in fact be a genuine one as there are a few other figures like this too, all from the same era. :D

The rugby smurfs are another nice set with variations and most of these were only available in the UK too. :-D
