I recall Andre mentioning this before but I wanted to expand on this. There are a small number of smurfs that instead of being given a mustard paint dot it was given a mustard paint circle. I believe this was an intential! From my understanding these were given to smurfs that were sold in the UK in 1978/79.

I have two smurfs with this mustard paint circle - Papa Smurf and Shiver with yellow scarf. Both of these smurfs also share the same markings - W.Germany © Peyo

Can anyone else add to this list?

Hi Kath

singer
thinker

Must have been an individual painter/small group of painters who painted like this for a short time at the start of the Maia and Borges contract around 1978. Stopped soon after though as there are not many like this

Thanks for adding the Astro Kath! Now there are four more mustard circle ones I need to get :) :) :) I've only got yellow circle ones, a part from the Astro of course.

After Tommo has shown the Astro, I recall having one with such a mustard circle and found him : Spy, in the most common variation with markings c PEYO W.GERMANY.
So
20001 Papa
20003 Astro
20004 Shiver
20008 Spy

Martin, I think the mustard circles, thick unperfect round circles, are different from the yellow circles
