The second one was better. The first was down below my screen and I couldn't pull it up.

this movie might be better than expected. Watched the trailer today and thought it looked great! Some of it was really funny it had me laughing. I'm actually excited for this film now. I do love the movie look of the smurfs now even more. I don't mind that.

I think the smurfs looked more cartoony than I expected.... but I think that is a good thing. It looks like fun.... I still worry about some of the low humor though.

Alan posted this on FB...some quotes of the movie smurfs

http://www.smurfhappens.com/soundboard/

I have to say I am very disappointed in the movie right now and yes, I know I have not seen the movie yet.

But so far going by the trailer and the quotes, it looks to me that they took away the innocence and naivety of the smurfs which made the smurfs of Peyo so lovable and actually special.

I know we have to get with the times, but to me the smurfs from the movie are simply not smurfs, but more gnomes that do a bad impersonation of the s

I have to say Maureen, I never expected this movie to be any good...I mean, I HOPED, but I knew they would do exactly the same to the Smurfs as the had done to the Magic Roundabout, Yogi Bear etc..they never stick to the way things are, they always hype things up, get stars in to do the voices (which for the Smurfs are AWFUL!) and take away the innocence from the original cartoons..I will go see the film, but I don't think I will be coming away from it happy at it being made :???:
Long, long ago, deep in the forest, there was a hidden village where tiny creatures lived. They called themselves the Smurfs. They were good.

I feel the same way, Steve..in a way I would like to say we should boycott the movie to make a statement but I think if we were to do that, it would cause them not to do anything with smurfs, so yes, I will go and see the movie as well,...and buy items I like (like the movie posters). I will even buy the DVD..but I doubt it will be one of my most watched ones :???:

I agree with you Moey and Steven. Infact I doubt if I go see the movie. Mainly because I can't see 3D. I am hoping that after the movie comes out they just continue to produce the old Smurfs.

I too question how well this movie will succeed.

As a parent of younger children 35 years ago, we purchased these little blue creatures because we related what they were portrayed doing with something we enjoyed, and they were quite affordable with pocket money. We bought that Ballerina or Baseball Player, Cheerleader or Gymnast because that was what our kids liked doing, and it was a lucky charm reminder of their childhood.

Even later into collecting, I was swamped with people wanting to get the Snowboarder Smurfs, because that was their passion in the winter time, to swoosh down the hills with their little Board Buddies good luck charms in their pocket.

Moms and Dads will not shell out the kind of money for toys that we are seeing now due out in May. Little Johnny or Mary isn't going to have a little Smurf sitting on their dresser, unless it's passed down from a relative who just happens to have some older Smurfs. Listening to the catch phrases the new Smurfs are spitting out, I don't think they are appropriate for the youngsters.

An example in the US is how surprisingly well an animated film called Gnomeo and Juliet has done. In 5 weeks it's done 90 million dollars here, and in it's third week it was just eeked out as number one grossing film for the week, which is rare for a non premiering film. It has English actors voices, with music by Elton John, pits red gnomes and blue gnomes feuding and it just shows what parents and kids want to see at the movies. I will watch intently to see if this Smurf film will rival this animation and see if it keeps the public's interest after it's first week.

Then again, I am older and maybe I don't understand todays marketing strategies, but I do know what I like and can afford and so far this is not the direction I like to see. Maybe that's one of the reasons I'm selling off my collection. I'll just pass it on to a younger generation who can appreciate the older Smurfs.

Jim

Well apperently the marketing people for Smurfs should have taken some lessons from Disney. Or they would have never left the scene in the US for 25 years. Mickey & friends have been around for at least 50 years. The Smurfs while still there for the die hard collector. Were only here for 5 or 6 years for the most part.
