Hi, from Spain!!!! I think I can´t be considered as a beginner collector, and I have seen lots and lots of smurfs in my life, and I actually have more than 800 smurfs...But when I watch a new smurf variation that it´s not included In DSK IV, I always ask myself: is it a really rare variation or is it a fake-repainted smurf? This is usual on ebay, and I ask experimented collectors: what can I do? It´s a big problem for me...To buy or not buy...that is the question...
For example I recently have seen a shiver smurf with a green scarf, smurfs with cones in all colours, nr 20061 with a red baton, lots of promos ( with coke, with pepsi...)...Most of times I´m sure they are fakes-repainted, but not always...

I am agreed with the opinions in other topics, that there can be variations not included in DSK, or picked as "sonstige", but I think this word is not reporting to colour variations...

It´s a big problem,some nights I cant sleep thinking about this....Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bye, bye from Spain... :-? :-? :-? :-? :-? :-? :-? :-?

Hi Pitufo

I know what you mean and it can be very tough for collectors trying to find authentic smurfs sometimes that are not fake. The ones you mentioned with the red baton, different coloured cones (white, blue and the unpainted ones), Shiver with a green scarf are all fake as far as I am concerned.

Any confusion then feel free to ask some of us here on the forum or via PM.

I think that if one seller repeatedly has strange variations for sale then you can safely assume they are selling fakes. If these odd variations were so easy to come across then more genuine dealers would be selling them.

I recently bought a blue majorette on ebay just to test the paint underneath and sure enough it used to be pink! Another collector I know got caught out buying a red dress secretary smurfette which had also been repainted.

I think you have to think "If it seems too good to be true, then it probably is.."

You can always ask a seller where they got the smurf from. If they say something vague like "I found it on a flea market" or "it is from my childhood collection" then you have to be suspicious. And if the variation is so rare and they are a collector then why are they selling it? I know if I buy rare smurfs then I always like to know exactly where it came from so I can prove its authenticity.

I have written a page about buying on ebay which you may find useful

Rachel also has a lot of info about fakes

Thank you very much for the information...

I thought that it was really suspicious that one seller repeatedly has strange variations for sale...And that seller must be included in "My Forbidden LIST"...Praying smurfs, cones smurfs...is clear for me, but I always have a doubt with the accesories in different colours....Do you think...

nr 40219.3 (smurf with a white boat)
nr 40203.5 ( red and green tricycle)
nr 40205.3 (skier with transparent sticks)
nr 20160.3 and 20160.4 ( red and dark green apple)
and others apeearing in DSK IV can be considered as fake?

How do the creators of DSK IV know if the called "testversion"are really original or fake? Do they ask to the owner of the license?...

It´s a problem...Can anybody send me a pm with that "special" repainter sellers? I have watched two or three last days...

Thank you very much. It´s important for me all the help from experimented collectors, from all the world...Bye and thanks again

nr 40219.3 (smurf with a white boat)
Hi Pitufo

The white Row Boat is an Alfred J Kwak item and not a smurf piece. However, since it is most likely identical or very close to the smurf variations in size and design it fits perfectly with smurfs. However this white boat, white school desk, white vanity table and green stove which are all mentioned in the DSK are actually Kwak items. They even have a Kwak Windmill, Farm, Hammock, Gate & Fence playset, Sail Boat, Wheelbarrow & Garden Furniture which are all different colours to the smurf ones.

The Kwak items were produced during the 90's but couldn't of been available for long which now makes them reasonably hard to find.

I hope this helps a little....as for the others....well I don't think they were ever released to the public if infact they were ever made.
