Wow in NY smoking is banned I dont think you are aloud to smoke inside anywhere any more except for your own home
Margaret - same in California and Delaware -- I'm sure there are more states now that have a smoking ban but I don't know what they are :-? (I rather love going into places and having it smoke-free though...I have horrible allergies and breathing troubles)

hi! same here.. NO smoking anywhere except outside or in your private place..
there is talk that they want to ban smoking inside a car even!

I personally am not a anti smoker..my friends smoke..but I don;t
it's not a issue for me..:) but I can see some people's opinions on it

Oo I think they should ban smoking in cars. Why do they ban mobile phones but not smoking when driving? How can you have full control of the steering wheel when you have a cigarette in your hands? I guess the cigarette doesn't talk back to you and maybe that's the difference, people might be a bit surprised if they are smoking and driving and their ciggie suddenly shouts "BOO!!!!" :) :) :)

Due to the high cost of health insurance, a few companies in the USA are requiring employees to submit to tobacco testing. If you are a smoker, you either have to quit smoking, have to agree to a treatment program, or have to be fired from the job.

This sort of policy worries some non-smokers also because potentially such a policy could be extended to physical fitness (there's a growing movement in the USA to paint obesity as a public burden). Potentially, health care premiums could be imposed on people who are overweight, or fail a cholesterol test, et cetera.

They are talking about denying people treatment here in the UK if they are obese, or something like that. If people are so fat why are we all living longer? :-?

I don't agree with not treating someone cos they are overweight. I'm underweight, always have been, and I've tried to put on weight, I stuff my face full of rubbish and nothing works. I never do any exercise, my arteries must be full of crap because I eat loads of junk food, that makes me just as bad as an overweight person. It's just in their physical makeup that they eat and pile on pounds, skinny people don't necessarily make any more effort to stay skinny. I know some do but not all. Like when you see these silly celebrity magazines in the UK moaning about celebs being too skinny like Nicole Kidman, Renee Zellwegger, etc. Well to me they are just naturally skinny and can't help looking like that, I'm just the same. If I was a celeb they'd be saying OMG look at her, she's anorexic, her marriage must be in trouble, she looks like a stick insect, BLA BLA BLA, and it's just down to metabolism.

Dennis,

you're absolutely right about smoking in Belgium. Luckily, things are slowly changing. From 2007 on, normally, smoking will no longer be allowed in restaurants (though it will still be allowed in pubs), and from next week on, it will be forbidden in work places (except open air and designated rooms). So we are getting there, but slowly (I'm a non smoker myself).
:sheep: Bored of normality, why not go smurf? :sheep:

i think we have had no smoking in the workplace for 15 years.
I'm pretty sure when i started working in a bank back in 1989 they were introducing the non smoking the start of 1990.
