Hello everybody.

Having started my new hobby this week (smurfing) and now having a chance to stop and think about it, I suddenly wondered what it is about smurfs that makes you and I so fond of them?

I like the fact that they are nearly all smiley :) That is how I would like to me more of the time! By the look of it adventurer smurf can use a compass much better than me - perhaps I had better take him with me up the hills of Yorkshire and Cumbria, I might not get as lost then!

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Stu

Hi Stu. I think I like them for similar reasons, they are very cute and friendly looking. And I like the fact that the way they look gives them different characters.

The Hiker and Adventurer are among my favourites, cool avatar. :-D

Hi Stu

I have been asked this question a thousand times and have even asked myself more.....I have no idea really.....I think it's just fun......I am totally addicted and even more so after meeting everyone here and sharing the joy of this hobby. I don't question it too much though as that may make me stop collecting so I guess the only answer I can give you is it's fun....the day it looses it fun is the day I collect something else besides smurfs and smurf bills.

But I stay off the fish... now...

Welcome to the board Silly Trout.

It's amazing how many fish are getting hooked lately.....maybe we could de-bait why this is happening......I just hope a Rod doesn't join the forum otherwise there will be tension....although a Rod is no match for a fish with a tank.

Dyar

.......actually just realised that there is only one letter seperating my name and Dory.......I wonder if Stace finds Trouts attractive....the way they can get up is very impressive......oh well....I suppose Syd can always dream of his placement at the wedding.....hang on....isn't it salmon that swims up?.....okay, I think Syd is safe.......although i am sure Syd still has that big metallic spear handy....the one that sent Louie to heaven........I will have to let Syd know that there is a trout about who may cause doubt in his ego......this should be fun.

....yes Karen you are right....I think I at least is on something.....but don't blame it on the sunshine, don't blame it on the moonlight, don't blame it on the good leave, blame it on the smurfySteve

......okay......medicine is on the way....just wanted to beat you to it Karen

....should I stop now?

OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess I had better explain myself as a fishy trout type person.

You need to use your imagination for this and squint abit, but here goes:

Silly Trouts is approximately my name backwards!

Stuart Willis --- SilliW Trauts

There is logic in there somewhere!

That is why my 'business' (cottage industry under a lot of construction!) is Silly Trouts Photography (sillytrouts.co.uk)

Otherwise my personal bits as it were will be on scwillis.co.uk (a complete mess at the moment!)

Awesome photos Stu!!

Simon & Lucie come from Yorkshire as well, it's a lovely part of England and somewhere my husband and I have plans to retire to hopefully!

Love the name as well, the thing with unusual names is people don't forget them and also you get good search engine rankings because it's not a common name. People thought my website had a strange name but strange names have a lot of hidden advantages!

Don't worry, I've medicated Dyar now, and when he is talking about Syd he means his best buddy smurf, just incase you were wondering! :) :)

And no David, you are not allowed to sneeze!!! :)

You know, this will prob make you all go Awwww, but my first smurf was given to me by my dad when I was three months old. It was the Burger one. So, Smurfs have been with me all my life. thir stories and their faces must have some sort of phsycological comfort to me. I think that all you really need to do is read those first few comics to actually understand how funny and moral they are.
So I guess what it is about smurfs, for me, is that they have always been there. I've grown up with them and they have acted as a reward and an education to me.

I am not crazy.

Perhaps you do are crazy, Az, but then we all are. It's the same for me, my first record was the Smurf record (1978), and I have always read and seen the Smurfs. And they stay good when you grow up, like Snoopy or so, but unlike Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or that kind of rubbish (apologies to all TMNT fans here!). They have good stories, lovingly made, and good merchandise, not the cheap stuff many other franchises have to live with.
:sheep: Bored of normality, why not go smurf? :sheep:

Hi Stu!
Yes, ignore Dyar when he's unmedicated....he will only start to make sense the more you hang around him (I understand him completely ACK!) :)
I too have grown up with smurfs and they just make me so happy. If I'm having a bad day, I just need to go into my smurf room and all is good. Plus I love anything miniaturized - don't know why :-?

Hiya Stu, it's nice to see another Yorkshire man on the board, especially one that collects smurfs too! We are from Bedale , still quite away from Skipton but never the less yorkshire. How long have you been collecting smurfs? Simon & Lucie :D

Hi Stuart, initially I think it was the fact that smurfs took me straight back to my childhood (not that I ever really left it) but also the fact that smurfs are great collectibles because they are small, easy to ship around the world, so many different figures available and of course fun. :D

Why is it called "common sense" when it is so rare.......

Lucie where is Bedale exactly? I found this map

http://www.yorkshire-tour.co.uk/yt/map.htm

but not sure where Bedale is.

I know Skipton because we spent loads of holidays in Ingleton and around that area. Is Bedale more on the East side?

Postby Guest » Tue Mar 08, 2005 5:40 pm
Ah I found you! You're not too far from Scotch Corner, my aunt lives at Barningham so I know that area, is that far?

Postby Syd Smurf » Wed Mar 09, 2005 12:51 am
Just looking at the overall map of England (in Karen's link up above) and I have to say....it looks a bit like a green Dragon who has eaten a human and the human is now trying to escape out the back of the dragon....it looks like a face at the back of the dragon anyway.......oops, maybe I was overly medicated.

you will pass bedale on your way to Barningham to see your aunty it's about 25 - 30 mile away so not that far away . just had a look at the link you posted as well and if you click on the thirsk link you will see kirkgate pictured , lucie's dental practice is the building just before the hotel with the ivy on it
I must admit we are very lucky where we live we are just minuites away from the yorkshire dales , north yorks moors and the lake district :D

Hiya Karen, Sorry Simon got it a bit wrong on Kirkgate front. The Building he thought was the hotel is actually The old veterinary surgery (Alf wights) aka James Herriots . Alf wrote the books there when he practiced as a vet there. His son Jim who used to be my dogs vet also practiced there but its now a museum. My practice is just behind the red car which is pictured. :D Lucie
