Looks like Schleich might stop producing smurfs once their license runs out in 2019. Decision is pending on how many smurfs they are selling and is it worthwile for them economically. Apparently, it's not enough that smurfs are mainly bought by collectors http://m.welt.de/wirtschaft/article1515 ... ringt.html

I can't believe, if Schleich decides stopping producing smurfs ever, that no other will start making smurfs.
Maybe next year, once the new movie comes out, more people will start collecting smurfs and thus buying more...
So far I haven’t heard anything about Schleich not producing the smurfs or an alternative company having the rights to produce the figurines. It would be good to know either way.
they were supposed to be released in July, with all the delays due the pandemic virus, they announced they pushed back the release in Septemeber, but I believe it will be later. It will also be better for sales, since they could take the wave of the Christmas gifts season.
I think the 2020 batch isn't great again, but I haven't really liked them since they became 'smurfs new style'. I much prefer the, to my feeling at least, more detailed versions they produced up until a couple of years ago.
At my local shop in Italy where I use to buy them, they told so. I think September will be good for Germany release, in Italy they will arrive one month later I think.
The interesting thing about the 2020 smurfs if that they don't have the Am Limes 69 marking. Just 'Made in Romania, Schleich, peyo, 2019' and the clock marking, plus an R in a circle.
