When I was in town buying christmasgifts for my family I as usual got home with a few smurfs.

I also noticed that Schleich have started with a new tag. It was on many animals and some smurfs. Probably will be on all smurfs and animals soon. At least in Sweden. I know they talked about this on the news. More regulations for toys. Not only does the toys have to have the companyname but also they talked specific about the choking risk for children under 3. This probably will be different in different countries.

But we know they added this choking hazard warning on the American century-boxes. :D

Not a new marking but could be intresting to know if they starts to show like this on ebay. :-?

The tag contains the choking hazard warning in many many languages. :-D

Oh dear...the whole thing is bigger than the smurfs themselves :banghead:

I hope it won't discourage Schleich from producing smurfs, simply for the fact that legislation makes it too difficult to produce small toys or too expensive..I can imagine the cost of that paper will raise the costs of smurfs

I don´t think so Maureen! :D

But who knows, could be that they stops selling loose smurfs and animals in the future and starts selling them on cards or in boxes instead??? :-?

I didn't think about the boxes but this would make sense as they could put the warning on there with no problem :D

I have a Jokey with that tag on it. Cost wise, I think the tags would be better for Schleich than blister cards.

I know the US is very picky about small toys though. I have to get my Kinder eggs from the black market.

Hi

So thanks to the US there are a lot of variations ( for me a different tag is a variation ) !!!!

I was surprised to see Schleich being sold in walmart stores now as loose items, I would have thought for sure these would be put in some box with all the warnings and stuff on them and make it harder to stick in pockets. I guess with all the toy recalls and stuff that is out there now it is not surprising to see the choking hazard tag, as long as they keep it as a tag and don't start putting all the info on the mold itself like they did with the address, then the poor smurfs will be nothing but writing and not much fun to look at.

You have found Schleich products at Walmart? Did they include smurfs?

My mother is working part time at Tractor supply (a farming store franchise) and they also sell Schleich products. I think they sell more of the farm animal series, but I already said if the manager were to order smurfs, I would guarantee his sales numbers that week would be very smurfy

No Smurfs Maureen just the animals and dinos where on the shelves, BUT it gives me hope that maybe we see smurfs sometime too.
We have a Fleet farm which is a farming type store and they have had the Schleich animals ever since I can recall. There is another store in one of our malls that has toy tractors and he started selling smurfs a couple years ago, at first he only wanted to do the animals but I guess schleich said he could not get a display unless he bought so many so he picked up smurfs too, he must have realized they sell good because he keeps them in stock and always has a good dent in the inventory.

Benny told me one important thing about the tag. It seems only the Jokey with gift have this. It is because this one is a two-piece mold and therefore the smaller gift can cause choking. I checked in the store and it seems correct since only the smaller animals have this tag.

So maybe only this smurf need this tag. :-D

Thanks Benny!!

I never considered the two part mold factor. It especially applies then it has parts than can separate or break. Seeing as Smurfs would pass a drop test, the multi-part molds would have to have the warning.

How bad was it that the first thing I thought of was the joke box coming off and being swallowed. During the x-ray when they ask the doctor what it is, he replies "It's a surprise! Nyuk! Nyuk! Nyuk!"

since my daughters collect the schleich animals I bought these. They were the only animals with this tag.

But they did not like it when I told them they could not have them since they were for my collection. Maybe I can use them in February as gifts for Edinas birthday!! :-D

I found a further Smurf with the oversize label at the leg. It's the base drummer from the party series (20707). It's a two-piece mold. The drum could be swallowed...

Great info Benny,

this is also one of the smurfs, Schleich don´t manufacture anymore!! So probably only the leftovers from last year can be found with this.

Actually I was wondering something. Since Schleich starts selling the new smurfs in May, 4 months later than they used to do. Do you think they stop manufacture the smurfs they will remove, 4 months later also???

Probably they just adapt the production to the demand in the stores??? :-?
