Thanks, Pierre for the link :D

http://www.smurf.com/

Really enjoyed reading the biography of Peyo..but thought this was interesting
Advertising departments rapidly saw the potential of the Smurf phenomenon and BP, Kellogg's, Côte d'Or and BN were some of the first companies to surf the incredible and increasingly popular Smurf wave.

But it is probably the PVC figurines of the little blue beings, first sold by Bully and then by Schleich, that had the most success.
Interesting part in bold...

in regards to the first promos...anybody know anything about Cote D'Or...and/or BN?

I think the sources are the same of Peyo the biography ones. According to the dates André shared with us, it is not possible Bully sold smurfs so early for one reason: it was a non existing company.

It's been a while since I watched the cartoons, but wasn't this the opening sequence and the opening song for the first few seasons? :-?

I know it wasn't used on the DVD release... I watched the cartoon a lot when I was little and I was pretty sure what was on the DVD release was the opening for the first year (It is a narrated opening with the same animation). Again I don't remember what it was like when I was a child, so I could be wrong....oviously they eventually went to the La La song (The DVDs start using that in the season two episodes).

I don´t think these companies were using any figurines Maureen.

They just used the smurfs in the ads.

And BN is probably Biscuiterie nantaise, who used Smurfs in their ads for Chocolate bisquits already in 1967. And I think they actually sold a special edition of "Astrosmurf" from this company??? :-? :D

Many chocolatecompanies like Kwatta, Waldbaur, Nestle seems to have been using them also.??
André

In Sweden the smurfs are blue ( and yellow).

You're right of course! The company Bully was founded in 1973 in Spraitbach. In the Bully museum catalog, you can see the entire official documents. In 1973 Schleich already produced Smurfs since a few years. Volkmar Klaus, founder of Bully has left the company Schleich and taken the rights for the production of the Smurfs from Schleich.

The thing that gets me is that you'd think they research that stuff before putting it in an "official" book or on an "official" website.

It doesn't give you much confidence that the other information on the site is correct :banghead:
