So who are some of your favorite bands?

Fleetwood Mac is coming to play New Plymouth after Australia and my wife desperately wants to go!

I've seen U2... back in 2001. FANTASTIC concert.

I also love Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, and Queen (havent seen either of them live though).

My favorite bands change regularly...right now I am listening a lot to U2, and I've just got a few CDs of Counting Crows that I enjoy as well (Thanks Dyar :D )

I am also getting more and more into Pete Murray, Cold Chisel, Coldplay and Mark Seymour (again, thanks Dyar :D )

Overall, I love to listen to diverse music and have everything loaded on my Zune (Microsoft version of an Ipod) which I love to shuffle while listening to it.

I like far too many bands but at the moment I'm listening to a lot of Hoodoo Gurus & Muse. I also really like the German band Die Ärzte

Muse actually come from a small town a few miles from where I grew up in Devon & they just played some homecoming concerts there - I wish I could have been there :( The singer from Coldplay is from Exeter so it looks like Devon is finally on the music map :)

I remember hearing Cold Chisel being played on the radio when I was travelling around Oz but I can't remember anything by them unfortunately...

Early Fleetwood Mac I really like but then they stopped playing blues.....

I like a lot of different kinds of music.

It usually depends on how old I were when you asked me. :)

Tojo,

regarding german music I remember a sond called "Männer" by Herbert Grünemeyer that we used tolisten to when we was in germany partying many years ago now. I remember I found to lyrics funny then.

" Männer kriegen keine Kinder
Männer kriegen dünnes Haar
Männer sind auch Menschen
Männer sind etwas sonderbar
Oh Männer sind so verletzlich
Männer sind auf dieser Welt einfach unersetzlich" :)

Engish translation of one of the "verses"?( not the one above) :

"Men have muscles
Men are terribly strong
Men can do everything
Men have heart attacks
Oh men are lonely champions
Have to go through walls, always have to go on"

At that time we went to Kirmes and drank a lot of beer and had a lot of fun. :-D

I am not sure if to laugh or cry. :) :)

Among the songs I still listen to are: Rainbow: Can´t happen here, Most songs by Creedence CR, especially fortunate son and travellin band, The Clash, Depeche Mode etc.

But my favorite song must be "Holding on to you" by Terence Trent D'arby. When we got our first child I used to play this when I walked around with him in my arms and tried to get him to fall asleep. :-D

Aww! I prefer the Buckingham/Nicks stuff. I think it's because I'm a musician... and I my picking style is a lot like Buckingham.

@Brandon: "Music was my first love and it will be my last." That's so true. :D I love hunting for treasures at second hand stalls, fleamarkets and collector fairs. I love Fleetwood Mac and U2. Sadly, I neither have attended a concert of them. Talking about bands, I love the Rolling Stones,ABBA, The Clash, Depeche Mode, Die Toten Hosen, Die Ärzte, Toto, Coldplay, Mando Diao, Franz Ferdinand and Pink Floyd. :D Talking about individual artists, I'm a huge fan of Alicia Keys, Lara Fabian, Anastacia, Katie Melua, Delta Goodrem, Lizz Wright, Jean-Michel Jarre, R. Sakamoto, Lenny Kravitz, John Legend and many more. ( I guess, I better stop now.) :) :) :) That's why constantly add faves on YouTube both as a reminder what to look out for next and my fondest pieces of music/films etc. :D

@Andre: My second Swedish teacher used to have a crush on Herbert Grönemeyer. :) :) :)

Being born in 1980's, I love his theme for the tv series "Sommer in Lesmona".
Despite being instrumental only, it's a masterpiece of its own. I liked him portraying classical composer Robert Schumann in "Spring Symphony" and I'm glad to have that one recorded some months ago from tv, since it hasn't been aired for almost twenty years.

@Andre and Lia: My fondest Dutch memories of the 1980's is "I'm only shooting love" by the "Time Bandits". My mum used to have a slightly crush on Gerard Joling, after his performance of "No more bolero" at a German quiz show, but I never told her about him being gay, since it would surely broken her heart.
:) :) :)

Great choices Ritter!

I too love Coldplay & The Clash! I've recently gotten into Roxy Music pretty heavily, too. I never liked John Mellencamp either, but have gained a new taste for him over the last few years. I was boycotting The Killers for awhile as well, but I have to admit I really liked the album "Sam's Town." ;)

@Brandon: Roxy Music are great. :D I remember becoming fond of them, whilst being in Eastbourne, Sussex some twelve years ago, when I borrowed a Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music complication from my host mother.

Being fond of synthy, I cherish "Virginia Plain":

But "Avalon" is definitely one of my favorite videos, since it has something magical. :D

Btw. my name's Dominique. :D

Dominque! Sorry about the name flub... ;)

Avalon is a fabulous record. I also love the songs: Trash, Over You, and Jealous Guy. Brilliant band indeed!

Postby PonySmurf » Wed Sep 16, 2009 3:41 am
Oh yeah. I have a broad musical taste I think. Then again, I generally dislike all rap, most hip-hop... and 97% of country music. ;)

Postby Ritter_Schlumpfenherz » Wed Sep 16, 2009 3:45 am
@Brandon: I prefer American and some German hiphop and rap, but I hate violent German rappers of the likes of Sido, K.I.Z. etc.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8z13AjI8n4I

I hate German Volksmusik, but I do love French chansons. :D

Postby PonySmurf » Wed Sep 16, 2009 3:48 am
HAHA! That's exactly the kind of stuff I can't listen to. But I do like some of the old school stuff, RUN DMC... Notorious B.I.G. But, I don't listen to it regularly. I also like Lyrics Born (had a popular song called "Callin Out")

If I do listen to country it's guys like Ronnie Milsap.
