There was a short article on todays daily newspaper about the smurfs turning 50. It's app. the same as the text Dominique found from the german magazine.

Here is the translation:

Dispite that the success of the blue little people has carried for 50 years.

The smurfs celebrate their half century journey with a new moviecontract and with fresh female characters march.

The smurfs adventures have been turned into over 30 languages. The marketing value of these little people is app. 4 billion dollars (about 2,7 billion euros).

I also taped some news from Spanish (TVE internacional), Belgian (RTBF SAT) and een tv journaal, from BVN (BVN is channel is a tv channel for Dutch and Flemish people living abroad) and from German tv channels ARD and ZDF (Nachtmagazin and heute Nacht) last night. :D

Here's the Nachtmagazin video: http://www.nachtmagazin.de/redirectid.j ... ideo262108

Btw. you may also watch "heute Nacht" news via the so-called ZDF Mediathek

Here's the instruction:
1st: Hit "Zur ZDF Mediathek"
2nd: Select on "Sendung verpasst?"
3rd: Hit "Mo, gestern"
4th: Go to page 2
5th: Select "heute Nacht" and fast forward until 10:48

Hi Rachel,

I only had my Swedish class yesterday, two hours in class and two hours for doing some tasks on our virtual blackboard. :) However I shall go to three classes today. :)

I also found two smurfy news:

1. In the newspaper we get at home ("Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung") there was a short article with the information we already have and a little picture of the 2.0100 cake smurf. :D

2. In the German comedy show "TV Total" there was a short mention about the smurfs at the show's beginning:

Thanks Mum, I will look into this. :D

There still seems to be a lot of interest and I have spotted a few more articles today. Also worth mentioning, apart from a couple of emails about radio interviews (see the Sisters TV Thread) I have also received quite a few emails over the last couple of days asking us for info about selling / licensing products / asking for general info about the smurfs. It looks like there has been a lot of interest in what has happened.

Of interest to UK smurfers, we recieved an email from Selfridges in London asking us for info about stocking and selling smurfs. Now that would be cool if they started selling, other shops could fellow suit. I have put them in touch with Schleich and IMPS. :-D

 Great news about Selfridges :-D . I really think we may finally start to see smurfs appearing in more UK shops this year :fingers: If it doesn't happen now then I can't see it ever happenin' :-?

Selfridges...OMG!!! YAY!!! At last maybe I might be able to buy smurfs where I live  :D
Long, long ago, deep in the forest, there was a hidden village where tiny creatures lived. They called themselves the Smurfs. They were good.

Robert got me a news paper article from Green bay, It was from the Wednesday paper and it has a small picture of the smurfs on the same page as our Packers, now just to put this in perspectife for you guys... Around here the packers (our football team) they are the biggerst thing since... well apple pie I suppose and we take them very seriouse. So for a smurf to make it on the same page as them is a Big deal. The article just mentions again that they are turning 50.. most of what has already been covered.
I can not beleive how much press they are getting here in the states, I'm hopeing it's a good sign for things to come this year

Hi Gerda, that must have been a great suprise when Robert turned up with this. :-D

I have tried to check as many newspapers as I could this week but have so far found nothing. It may be that there were articles at the beginning of the week that I missed.

Anyone found any articles in British newspapers apart from Steve's Metro discovery? :-?

Another mention of the smurfs, a VERY quick blurp about the smurfs turning 50 was on VH1's best week ever.. it was very very quick.. basicly only said the smurfs turned 50.. and it took me longer to write it than it did for them to say it. But it is still a mention. better than nothing. :-D

My mother called me this morning because the smurfs were also mentioned on Christian News Radio today

I thought this was pretty cool, especially since a lot of Christians think smurfs are demon possessed and wouldn't allow their kids to collect them in the 80s (especially in the Bible belt where I live)
