Ok, to follow on from the other questions recently asked, how about.......

What has been your most disappointing smurf purchase ? :-?

:-D

Two years ago, i bought a Jokey with gargie in box off E-Bay, advertised as in mint condition, (picture did show a perfect smurf too), from one of our favourite sellers from Holland, ---car, yeah, you guessed, and when it came, it had a broken latch, the smurf was dirty looking too :???:

Never again did i buy from him

:-D

Once I was buying a picnic-smurf with a very short stick, on the holland clubday.
They've sold it for an original one.
When I showed him to Tintin he asked me if I didn't saw it....I said what???? It was the end of the stick nicely cutted. :devilsmurf:
I was so dissapointed, you can't imagine.
But he's still in my collection, to remind me of the bad seller! And to remind me, I always have to look twice!

The hockey super smurf.

Looked great from the picture, but when I got it, I found that one of the skates was broken off. :(

Still, I complained to the seller, he said he hadn't noticed and he gave my money back (discounted it on my next buy). So at least I didn't burn with the money. :thumbsmurf:

Now this is more of a tough question for me as I can't really think of many disappointing purchases. There has been the odd rub on a few smurfs that were described as "mint" or "excellent" but nothing that has really annoyed me. :-?

I'm happy me. :-D

I think my biggest disappointment was, when I had bought some auctions from one seller and never got them. It were some polish fakes.
I was not able to contact him or make any other things, as he had left ebay a few weeks after my buy.
But, as this was my only problem that I had with ebay by now, I'm quite happy with it. :D

a king smurf described as a 'petit gervais' promo..and when it came it was just a regular king...and I never got a refund from the seller

Hi Smurfers

I would guess my worst purchases would be the following:

1) A Ebay seller sold me a fake praying smurfette when it was described as original etc......I still love her. Though, I could have done without paying what I did for her.

2) I bought a windmill and when I opened the box, there were pieces missing.........the big red mushroom that goes at the side being one item. :x I did get a full refund for this item, though, and I was able to keep it! :D

3) There's been a couple of other fakes as well: smurf with pig (paid £50 but complained that it was a fake and got a part-refund of £30 - still a lot to pay for a fake even after the refund); smurf riding candy stick - turns out that it's a HK fake!!

On the positive side, I have learnt a great deal from these previous experiences and I am a lot wiser when it comes to purchasing smurfs from Ebay sellers. I will not buy 'rare' smurfs now unless I can actually hold them and see them properly. So, the rarer smurfs will now be bought at smurf fairs or from dealers that I can trust 100%. :-D

I'd have to say the tree stump I won a couple of months ago -- it got completely destroyed in transit through no fault of the seller, I must add. Customs (not sure if it was in France or American customs though) had opened it and did not repack it properly and left over half the packing material out of the box so the stump arrived in a billion little bits when I got it :( :( The seller has a claim against the post office but there is one less tree stump in the smurf world now
:dory: Staci :dory:

Oh Stace, that's first time I have read about your poor tree stump. I am so very sorry. You must have been absolutely gutted.

Sorry to hear about that Stacie.

I think it was the lawnmower super, he looks cool on the box but when you assemble him you get this stupid looking bright yellow mower that just looks tacky.

(odd really cos there are other supers I think are much better than they look on the box like smurfette w oven or the BMX bike)

That is very sad Staci  Hope you don't end up out of pocket at all and find another one real soon

My biggest one was the Toto Lotto sockel that proved to be fake...I should have seen the warning signs but as so often I acted without thinking. He was advertised as mint but when I looked at the picture (after the sale) you could see the smurf was glued on the sockel and the seller is a very um...to say he is controversial is an understatement....I must say the seller refunded me part of the money and I was able to use the sockel as an educational piece about fake sockels on my website..so in the end it was ok.... :-?

I still want to cry when I think about Staci's treestump... :( Although it wasn't an item I had won or owned...it was one of the biggest disappointments this year

Very sad story, dear Staci!!!!!!!! :( :( :( :( :( Let´s hope you will get another one soon for half of the money you got the 1st one!!!!!!

My worst purchase: well, I must admit I have been a very lucky guy when I have bought at fairs, on ebay or by email...Only one smurf I bought, I never received...It was a fisher with brown line that I bought from a member of this forum...I suppose he was not guilty, and the parcel lost, but I was really dissapointed...The smurf was not expensive but it was my 1st time!!!!!!!

This question is easy for me although I guess it didn't cost me a lot of money in the end....but I did cop my very first and only negative feedback from it.

A seller had a fake Pupil Smurf (the one with the backpack) that I had never seen. I think the backpack was green so I was really keen to add it to my collection. I think I paid around $17 US for it which was fine as I wanted it.

When it arrived...it was beaten up regular Pupil smurf

I told the seller and they said "yeah, sorry I still have the actual one you won still here and made a mistake". The seller said, if I pay for it to be returned then they would send me the correct one. I said (nicely)...well, you know you made the mistake and it really shouldn't cost me any more money for you to fix your error (I had already been overcharged on the postage....as a lot of American & Australian sellers tend to do).

The seller then send me a not so nice email saying how they were sick of idiots like me on ebay ( ). Since I was getting nowhere with the seller I filed a complaint with Paypal. Unfortunately Paypal agreed with the seller saying they were willing to co-operate by offering me the chance to send it back at my own cost to fix the problem. I questioned why the seller would want this smurf back as I doubt I could of sold it for $1 since it was so beaten up (big rubs on nose, ears, fingers etc...it looked awful).

Since Paypal let me down and the seller was being an asshole, I got shitty and just left them neg feedback, knowing full well I would get one back that was underserved.....but at the time I really didn't care and was a very grumpy Drew.

In the end I paid over $26US for a smurf that I sold in a mixed lot of 6 damaged smurfs for around $3.25 Aus.....not happy Jan :x

Like I said it wasn't a huge loss.......but it really kind of sucked in so many ways, but more that Paypal agreed that I should foot the cost for the seller's mistake (around $10 Aus)......and I think that is sooooooo wrong and unreasonable......but that's just my logic :-?

I now wear my neg feedback like a medal for standing up to the stupidity of ebay/Paypal logic :D

Dyar

PS - Did you any of you actually think I was going to write a short post? :)

There is nothing wrong with your logic, Dyar! I really feel for you and agree with you. I have had similiar experiences myself with Ebay/PayPal, and I fully believe that they seem to always been on the side of unscrupulous sellers. :banghead:
