Some of you know that I started a new adventure today in that I am co-facilitating (or whatever) a new hire class at my job for the next two months..Well, today was a pretty easy day for the trainees in that we all spent the time getting to know each other and playing little "team" building games...like 2/1 (tell two truths and one lie about yourself) and then we proceeded having to tell one unique thing about ourselves...

I was the last to come up with something and had a hard time finding something unique about myself, because I am really a normal kind of gal and have never done or met anybody worth bragging about..(apparently I am in a class in which some met Michael Jackson, sang with Barry Manilow (and yes, she bragged about that ), and one girl claimed her uncle was on the phone with Bill Clinton when he soiled Monica's dress and she met four presidents). I guess, you know why I had a hard time coming up with something worthwhile to tell about myself..so I just blurted out "I collect smurfs"...they looked at me with the look I have come to expect and asked"do you have them all?" to which I kinda shrugged my shoulders and just said "I have .....a lot"....The trainer then proudly announced she knows what smurfs are in Spanish and looked at me asking if I knew...which of course I do...thanks to Joaquin :D

Now, you need to know that I am usually a closet smurfer unless I know the people really well...and I most certainly usually don't go around introducing myself with "Hi, my name is Maureen and I am a smurf collector"....but it was fun in a way and they talked about smurfs for a few seconds even :) :) :)

That is funny....I have never outed myself but my friend Lexy has outed me on three different occassions  At least I was drunk enough all three times to not really notice or care the odd looks I got

I haven't actually outed myself as such. Though, I can't help feeling a little awkward if someone visits and just happens to see all the smurfies (well, you can't really miss them :) )

Great story though, Moey!! It did make me chuckle. :-D

That's a nice story Maureen. Not many people know that I collect smurfs & if anyone visits then they only see the giant smurf standing on the cupboard downstairs which most visitors laugh at :o

My collection lives in our bedroom so not many have seen it.......

Well done Moey, you have done a great thing!! :champ:

Be proud to be a smurfer, you never know, like Joaquin says, maybe now you will have co-workers bringing you bags of smurfs. :-D

Why is it called "common sense" when it is so rare.......

Congrats Maureen! :)

Hey, some ppl collect stamps and coins... and it's considered a "normal" hobby. I don't see where the diference is, really.

I don't go around blabing/braging on my collections or likes, but I don't hide them in a secret corner of the house. :)
So, if anyone visits, they're going to see them proudly displayed! 8)

PS - I just won 3 nice smurfs which I didn't really expect to win! (2.0171 - Handy, 2.0174 - Papa & Magic Book & 2.0199 - Gargamel Mask) Never thought I would get them so cheap, lol (was even ready to give almost double of what I payed for them)!
There are those who believe that life here began out there...

Once somebody mentions Barry Mannilow....it's kind of easy to come out and say..."well, I only collect smurfs" isn't it?

I never really tell anybody....but then again smurf collecting is just a small part of who I am so they never really get mentioned unless it comes up in the conversation.....and that rarely ever happens...... :relieved: ......I don't think they would understand :-?

Hi,

I came out to a unknown student, I accidentally met, whilst being on campus a few months ago. First I felt kinda embrassed, but I was rewarded with a box full of cuties. :-D http://forum.bluecavern.com/viewtopic.php?t=9700

Not to forget, that I also came out to one of my lecturers, since that I wrote a paper on collecting smurfs. :D

In public, esp. on fleamarkets, I disguise myself, so that I can save bucks on smurfs.

There's nothing to be ashamed of.

Postby Smurfysmurf » Wed Dec 05, 2007 6:35 pm
I am not actually ashamed of smurfs....but it's not something I mention right off :winks: I usually give people some time before they realize that I am a bit crazy :-D

that made me laugh...because that was the exact thing I said :) :) :)

Except for when you met me right?

....oh and Graham.....Christy....don't forget Stace.....and of course the others you've met in the Northern hemisphere....but besides all of them....I doubt any others would have a clue that you're crazy at all. :)

Dyar

PS - Good luck with the training :D

Postby Smurfysmurf » Wed Dec 05, 2007 7:33 pm
