Just watched the link!

Tha was excellent Rachel! I'm a teacher too, and I when I told my kids they laughed their bums off!

However, a few of them brought smurfs in for me, so it wasn't all that bad! :)

PS - If someone sees Dyar anywhere tell him that I wouldn't mind chatting to him but I wouldn't like it much either. :?
Yeah I agree with Dominique...send him a PM as that would be a good way to reach him :o ......not sure he will be thrilled either but it's hard to say.....he's a little strange too :-?

Dyar

PS - Not THAT strange......just a little  8)

OMG!

I had a slight shock today when my sister texted me to say I was on the front page of the newspaper!!! :yikes:

Not only this, the main story was on page 3 (WooHoo, finally made it onto page 3!! ) and another small article in the opinions section. I am guessing there wasn't much real news happening today! :sofunny:

For some reason, I have been far more nervous about this, knowing that there are now a LOT of local people who would have seen this. :sofapurple:

Here is the link to the papers website, the whole article is on there and I even get a photo slideshow and my own podcast!!!

http://www.thisisswansea.co.uk/

Sorry, I can't get the print big enough to read. Here is the actual article. :D
The stresses of buying a new house is enough to make anyone feel a bit blue.

But Rachel Webley's hunt for a new home was made more difficult because of one key deal-breaker - it had to have a Smurf room.

The 36-year-old's sprawling collection of Smurf-related items left her old pad in Cimla a little cramped. Click here to view our podcast from Rachel's home

So, she and husband Richard needed somewhere with a bit more space.

"When we were looking for houses, we purposely looked for one with a room big enough for me to keep my Smurf collection," she said.

"I've got thousands of things from small figures to large objects and they had to be kept in the attic in my old house.

"I think I've got around 2,000 and I have no idea how much money I've spent on them -which is probably a good thing."

Rachel first began collecting the blue cartoon characters in her late 20s after a petrol station promotion.

"They were giving away a small figures of the Smurfs when you spent a certain amount at the pumps," she said. "I got all the figures in the promotion and it just progressed from there."

Since then, music teacher Rachel has scoured the world, and the worldwide web, to add to her ever-growing collection.

It is now got so big, her Ystradgynlais home has an entire room dedicated to it.

Her collection covers everything from thousands of little figures, through to a Smurf telephone, and Smurf Cycle reflectors, as well as one thing she can take wherever she goes - a Smurf tattoo.

"I had a tattoo of a Smurf done for my birthday one year," she said. Click here to view our slideshow

"I'd always wanted a tattoo, and a Smurf playing the double bass made sense really."

But what is her most treasured possession?

"I'm a sports fan, so it would have to be a football Smurf," she said.

"It's so rare, there are only two in the world and I have not been able to find out how much it is worth."

But what does her husband of 12 years think of it all?

"He's really supportive," added Rachel. "He does not collect them, but he knows more about them than he would let on."

And it looks like Richard, aged 36, won't have any problems picking a Christmas present for his wife.

"I'm really easy to buy for," she added. "I'd love to get the Pixie Village this year."
There are a few mistakes, like the petrol promotion bit but hey, it is still good promotion for the little blue guys.

I love the last sentence of the smaller article. :)

Long, long ago, deep in the forest, there was a hidden village where tiny creatures lived. They called themselves the Smurfs. They were good.

Aww Rach.....that is so cool

Finally there is some real news in the newspaper. I would of been shocked if this happened to me but when it comes to you I think why not......front page news too  I really should of got you to sign something last year for me......me thinks I already can't afford something signed now.

Before too long Rach will have her own private trailer section on this forum and next time she travels to Belgium for a fair everyone will have to make room for her entourage.....ya know make up artist, hairstylist.......hairstylist for her little dog.......um, nah...can't see Rach going down that path......maybe more like just being able to afford more expensive grog :) :)

You're such a star Rach......and thoroughly deserved too :D

Thanks guys. :-D

Well everything is back in it's proper place after spending the day going back and fourth upstairs with armfuls of smurfs. :relieved:

I had a phone call from our local newspaper earlier and did a quick interview for them and the photographer is coming tomorrow so I think there will probably be an article at some point next week. :D
Wow Rachel,
never did I think that you would become a V.I.S.C. (a very important smurf collector). I am very proud of you. :cheerz:

Postby Rachel » Tue Oct 30, 2007 5:28 am
You guys make me blush!!!!

I am sure I am just the lucky one this time, there are plenty of people on here who should also be shown to the world, some of them even for their smurfs.

I will enjoy my 5 mins of fame but it would be great to see some other smurf collections featured publicly too. I know we have already had quite a few articles published in magazines and newspapers about other members here too and even radio appearances. We shall get the message about smurfs to the world one day................... :wicked:

We have a couple of extra copies here at the moment and Richard is going to try and ask in work today to see if we can get any others. :D

David Beckham???? Nah.......... well not unless he was dessed up as Papa Smurf. :)
