Hi Smurfers

I have just received the folklift playset No.9. It is unopened and in mint condition and I am inclined to keep it that way. In fact, I have a few smurfy items now that are still in their boxes (for example: 40th anniversary set). Even though it would be nice to set these items up and display them, I feel that it would reduce their value.

What do other members feel about this? Do you keep your smurfy items boxed, or do you assemble them? Do you have two of each item - one boxed and one assembled?

:-D

Good question Duckface :D

I have most of my playsets still in their boxes, some have been out and then put back in ! It just depends really, my Schleich astro set is on display, as it is my favourite, but the applause set is staying in the box. My petrol and forklift sets are out at the moment too :D

As for value, come on, do you honestly think you are gonna sell them ? :) :)

:-D

That's a good question I have also also asked myself...

My supers stay in their boxes and are not sticked together, if they aren't already sticked together...I also don't open boxes that are still never-opened...

You're right, but...Don't know... :-? :)
Maybe it gives you a better feeling when you know that they are as new as they were in the shops etc.? :D

I collect toys not boxes as someone sometime put it :). Smurf toys just look so much better assembled and without the packings. I do save the boxes though (in case I ever change my mind).

Well,
whilst collecting smurfs as a kid, my parents would normal throw away the box due to the lack of space in my former sleeping-room. Nowadays, I keep the boxes, but love to display some of them, e.g. the Western playset and the band.

This is a good reason why you buy two of everything, one for display, one to keep in box. Of course it is easier when it is a cheaper super and not an expensive playset. My rule of thumb is if it was never opened I don't open it!

It is a personal decission...But this is mine: I always open the box, but keep it...I love to see the smurf "in person", and not drawn in a box...

And about the value: as Graham says...I am sure I will never sell them

Same here - it's if not opened or assembled, it stays that way but if it's already opened or put together, it's fair game to be taken out

Exactly the same again for me :D

I have around 20 super smurfs that I have only ever seen as a picture. Then maybe sometime if I can't buy any smurfs for a while I can open these instead, like presents to me on a penniless day :-D :)

I just opened all 10 of my new supers. :)

Just can't see the point of having a toy in a never opened or assembled. Unless one plans to sell it later on, then what's really the point to keep them in a box?

I'm the type where "never opened" or "in-box" is wasted. I know I'll just opened them up and let them see the sunshine, enjoy the views, and let them be played with! :)

Same here, I open them but definately keep the boxes..infact I collect the various boxes..and I can't see the point of having several different variations of supers and never being able to enjoy looking at them :)
Long, long ago, deep in the forest, there was a hidden village where tiny creatures lived. They called themselves the Smurfs. They were good.

I have a problem with some of the newer super smurfs like the cars.. Once these are assembled they don't fit back in the box (not sure exactly how they got in the box to begin with :-? ) So those that I did assemble I bought doubles of so I have one in box too!

Well, I used to be the one who threw every box away as I didn't see any reason in keeping them and I wanted to display my smurfs...Then I started to sell them ....then I started to give them away as I swore I would never collect boxes which only take away space

the rest is history, I guess :banghead: :banghead:

Now I collect the boxes as well and I have pretty much bought them all back....At the moment the smurfs are in the boxes but I probably will take them out at one point only if to take pictures of the smurfs and to see if I have variations among them...after that I probably will display them in boxes...again because of space...because I am now at the point where it saves space to keep the smurfs in the boxes....the same goes for the the playsets....

I'll never sell them so I might as well have them out where I can have a little fondle with them now and again :-D

Very good point! I think if I had more space then I would be inclined to have more of my playsets etc on display.

I also open the boxes, display the smurfs & keep the boxes in a safe place.

With some of my other collections such as Playmo, I've bought 2 of a specific model so that I can keep one sealed up & the other I can open if I ever want to.

Not much help in the case of a Schlumpfburg as who can afford 2 of them? :)
