The discussion about the early narrative for the HB TV cartoons made me think about a poll question: I have never ever seen the Magic Flute movie!!! How tragic is that?!?!?

I wonder how many of us have seen it? and if you have what do you think? Did you like it?

Do you think I should move earth and mountains to track down a copy? :):)

Cheers,

David

Hi

I have seen this movie and I liked it a lot. Here in Germany the DVD was released last week (!) and I could not resist to buy it for only 6€. The movie is so much different from the cartoon series of the 80s. E.g. papa smurf says in the "Magic Flute" that he is 657 and two months old and in the cartoon series he is only 543 years old. The smurf village looks quite different, too. The movie in general looks a bit or has a bit of the style like the Asterix movies from the 70s.

Hi David
I voted no even though I do have a copy of it.
I haven't seen it myself, only heard it in the background when Kristy has watched it. :D
:winks: Raelene

That is a crime Raelene. You have the Magic Flute film. I might have to grab a copy from you. I voted no. Haven't seen this film. Funny thing is, yesterday I came home from work and sitting on my desk was (now my 3rd copy) of the magic flute story book. lol. My mother found it yesterday for 20c so she thought why not. hehe. although 3 copies of the book now and I can't recall ever reading it.. whoops.. well I may have but I really can't remember.

Brad.

Great poll David. :-D

I voted yes as I have the video although I haven't watched it since I first had it about 5 years ago. I did enjoy watching it although I think it is probably about time I gave it another run before videos become completely obselete. :D

For a split second I thought you meant the smurf Magic Flute too.

Classic. :adore: :worship:

Mozart is okay but I am more of a Puccini or Verdi Opera girl I am afraid. :-D

There we go Renee, does that make you sound less square?

I have a partial copy of the "Flute of Six (Holes)" ("Le Flute a Dix Schtroumpfs"), not actually "magic flute"). I recorded it as a kid, then recorded a Doctor Who over top of the beginning after I lost interest in smurfs as a boy....

Perversely, the movie isn't easily found here. Netflix, for instance, doesn't carry it.

The reviews for it are pretty bad, which makes me want to see it again. I think the problem is that the American reviewers aren't in to Peyo's sense of humor (Peewee's bad singing only goes so far...).

As for Mozart's "Magic Flute" ("Zauberflote" vs. "Le Flute a Dix Schroumpfs"), I used to listen to it a lot as background music and now Popageno drives me crazy....

"Pop... pop... pop..."
"Pop... pop... pop..."
"Poppoppop..."
"Poppoppop..."
"Pop-pop-pop-poppageno."
"Pop-pop-pop-poppagena."

(He has a girlfriend as dopey as he is)
