Some people asked me if there were smurfs in Latvia.
No...the Latvians hadn`t the slightest idea what a smurf was
( I took one with me and showed them)
In the toyshops, they were very helpful, but they came up with the dwarfs of snow white:)))
In the most advanced toyshop in the trendy shoppingcentre, they did however have a Schleich display!
( I didn`t check if the new marking was on it André)

I have a lot of pictures Hilary!
I`m not sure if I can post them on a smurfforum, because there is nothing smurfy about them, but since you`re an admin, I suppose, it`s allowed:)))

Riga has a lot of special buildings, special architecture and it`s one of the best towns for Jugendstil ( Art nouveau), mostly designed by Michael Eisenstein, the father of the famous filmirector Sergej Eisenstein from whom I saw an exposition.
The Jugendstilmuseum is especially nice!
Parks are beautiful and prices for food and drinks are really good!
The beachresort at the Eastsea, Jurmula, is also quite nice!

I just love those Art Nouveau building

When I went to the smurf fair in Brussels a couple of years ago I saw a few wonderful buildings & took some photos but those are much, much nicer.

I recently went on a seminar to Hannover & the part where our hotel was was entirely Art Nouveau. Every building was more stunning than the next. The seminar was held in what used to be the Bahlsen biscuit factory which was also embellished with Art Nouveau reliefs.

Darmstadt, which isn't very far from here has the Mathildenhöhe (I think that's spellt right) which is another Art Nouveau town quarter. I haven't been there yet but I really must.

When I walk around towns & cities today I wonder why more modern architects haven't been stood against the wall & shot for designing such horrible rectangular boring buildings...

Incredible pictures, Lia...thank you for posting them...like Hil said...you can post whatever you want..smurfy or not smurfy...you know the rest of us do :) :) :)

I love old houses like this. I remember walking around in my old neighborhood last year and being astonished at the artwork on the old houses...I never saw those when I lived there :o :)
