LOL!
Yes, I had read this too and had a little laugh.
It is funny actually seeing and reading all the different takes and angles that are being reported. I think the one that has suprised me the most is the business about introducing more female characters and this definately has been a popular headline. How they will do this, I have no idea, will it just be more smurfette's or will the new characters have new names too like Sassette?
As for the movie, there seems to be differing stories. Many articles mention the release being November 2008 and then you have this story which mentions 2010. Mind you, the same article also mentions an animation being produced by IMPS, maybe this is the one that will be released this year although, this is certainly the first mention of 2 projects???
And now these white-capped, blue dwarfs are getting set for the silver screen: Paramount Pictures is currently developing a CGI 3D Smurf feature through its Nickelodeon Films unit that would bring the mischievous creatures to a whole new generation (the currently untitled movie is tentatively scheduled for a 2010 release). In parallel, IMPS (International Merchandising, Promotion & Services) which runs the Smurf empire, is working on its own new cutting-edge animation that could revive the dormant television series once again.
Also it is interesting to note that I haven't seen a single article yet that mentions that in fact the smurfs are still popular as a collectable worldwide and always have been?
