:?
The DSK often mention different colored material when speaking about variations, like material white, material blue...

Does anybody know what they mean and how you can tell??? :-? To me they look the same :banghead:

Hi Maureen, it refers to the different colour PVC some smurfs are made from, most being either blue or white but there are many other base colours used too.

A good example is the Mermaid smurf, she comes in both blue and white PVC and can easily be seen by looking at the bottom.

Some figures are easy to tell as there might be an unpainted area on the figure but others are more difficult to tell as they are completely painted. I have noticed recently that quite often a WG smurf might have a blue PVC base but the HK smurf will be white and then completely painted.

I am in the middle of adding descriptions to Blue Imps and when I have noticed a difference I have pointed it out. I am not 100% sure I have spotted them all but I know there are quite a few that I have done. I have though only mentioned the PVC colours when there are 2 or more being used for the same figure.

A good tip it to look closely at the face and hat to see if they have been painted and also at the bottom of the feet to see of there is paint missing. :D

Here are a few that I have noticed:

Devil - Pink / Red
Indian Smurfette - Brown / White
Goodluck - Blue / Green
Papa & Pizza - Red / White
Cowboy - Blue / White
Sauna - Blue / White
Violin - Blue / White
Amour - Blue / White
Surfer - Blue / White
Farmer - Blue / White
Mermaid - Blue / White
Papa - Blue / Red
Rugby - Blue / White

I am sure there are plenty more, these are just the ones I spotted straight off after a quick look. I haven't gone through them all by any stretch. :-D

Thanks guys.

Maureen, normally I like to finish a job before I "go live" but so far I have been updating the photos and descriptions of the regular smurfs for the last few months. After moving house and finally being able to get the collection out again there were so many new variations to add I decided it was about time I took all new photos but in a moment of madness I decided to be different and worked backwards. I am currently back to about 2.0086 Gift smurf so everything AFTER this point has been done. It does feel like I am getting there now though and hopefully I should have finished the regular smurfs within the next few weeks then I just have to do everything else again.

The best page to see the differences netween old and new pics is here: http://www.blueimps.com/normalsmurfs51to100.html

I think this is the 4th time I have now gone through the collection to take photos. :!:

Rachel,
I just looked a bit closer at some of your updated pictures and sites and I love it...... It really will help a lot in determining what kind of variation the smurfs are.... :-D

Thanks Maureen, apart from the need to add so many new ones I have wanted to add descriptions for a long time so it was about time I did it again, plus I find new things every time I do it. :-D

I know Graham, sometimes I do question my sanity and whether it is worth it but each time the pics get a little better. I can tell you now though that it will be a few more years before I do it all again. Once it is finished though I will just be updating when a new smurf arrives which is a lot easier. :cyclops:

I just noticed this post and a few others that I never saw before for some reason...probably because I got too tired and was staying way past my bedtime and had to leave the forum and go to bed before sunrise....there fore missing some of them unfortunately.
I am currently back to about 2.0086 Gift smurf so everything AFTER this point has been done.
That is great Rachel...you have been very busy. I didn't know you had got that far through it all so I will have to go and have another look right through your website again this weekend and see all of the progress you have made with the new pics. I am glad that you have been able to have the time to update it all and the pages I just looked at them do look really nice....ok, I have a date with blueimps this weekend :D
