I this broschure you can read how the promos were made and how to order them. It also shows a lot of different smurf-promos. :-D Here are some of them.

When they describe how they make the promos, they show a first drawing of the tailer. As you see this smurf was made to go with the pin-cushion from the start. But I am not sure if that one was sold as a promo in the beginning. Eventhough many of the smurfs Schleich made 78-80 were first made a promos and then also sold as normals.

If you would like Schleich to make a mold for you it would cost between 600 and 900 DM??? :D

You can also read which productionalternative is the best depending on how many promos you would like to order. For example if you would like them to make over 100 000 promos it could be better if Schleich would make them abroad. Probably in Hongkong?? :-?

And if you wanted less than 30 000 items they made a simpler type of mold, that you only could use for a short time. Maybe only at one manufacture-occation?? :-? Between 30 000 and 100 000 they made a better mold you could use several times for several years. :-D

The last picture is of the form you could use and send to Schleich if you would like them to contact you with a "price-offer", after you had written how you would like your promo to look like regarding, motive, how it would look like( flat, bendy, plastic, relief etc), painted( unpainted, printed, painted, metallic), how the companyname would look like( in the mold, on a sticker etc), "accessories"( keychain, cord, sharpener etc). Then also the amount of figurines, special packaging and size of the figurines etc. :-D

:-D

Can you tell me from what year this brochure is André?

I am guessing aroundabout 1983.
The costs of 600 to 900 Deutsche Mark referred to a wax- or plaster model of the figurine. Mold costs would be (I am guessing here) at least 3.000 Mark.

When checking the items inside the broschure and comapring them with the Schleichcatalogues from 1983-1986 I would guess around 1985. But could be like Schleicher say earlier also. :-? :D

One thing when checking the broschures you could look at the Company name.

Pre 1 January 1987 Schleich only used the address: Schleich, 7070 Schwäbisch Gmünd etc..

But from the beginning of 1987, after the bancruptcy the Company split into 2 "companies". So after that they marked the broschures Schleich Spielzeug Vertriebs Gmbh.

So it is definatly pre 1987. So between 83-86 for sure.

No Problem,

that is what forums like this are for. Before you know it the knowledge will be gone and therefore it is important that members share their knowledge. If you keep information for yourself it will die with you and what´s the Point of that, right. :)

I would not have been able to gather my knowledge without help from so many collectors here at the forum. Stefans cataloguepictures have been a fantastic help together with all members pictures of variations.

Some collectors think it is better to keep variations to themselves because fakers would then make fakes of them. But if nobody knows about the variations they would most likely be be considered as fakes when they suddenly later shows up as variations.

Personally I think it is better to be open about what variations exist rather than keeping it a secret. SCCI tells a lot obout the variations and I Think we should continue with that.

Fakers will Always exist in all collectors markets, wether it is smurfs or art, if there is money to earn. therefore it is better if collectors knows what variations are possible and which ones are most likely fakes. That makes it a lot harder for the fakers to make money on the smurfs. :D

So keep sharing your variations, for future knowledge and for future collectors.

Of course knowlegde about the fakes are as important as the knowledge about the genuine ones. That knowledge goes hand in hand. Right Lia and Frank!! Our fake-experts! :D :-?

Today we had a double homocide in our small Community of a population of 6000 people. One of the Childs killed is the same age as my daughter and goes in the same school. :banghead: Born 1998. So sad.

That's awful André  That is especially bad is such a small community. A 14 year old girl who was in my cousin's daughter's class hanged herself recently after being bullied on the internet. These things make me very sad :( :(

Schleicher,

there is a Picture of the "Faschingsabzeichen" used for the gmunder Fasnet in this promobroschure. Those 2 are the ones made by Schleich for the Fasnet in 1982 and 1983. The Kornhaus and the Schmidturm.

In this page from the gmunder fasnet website you can see which years those were made. http://www.gmender-fasnet.de/index.php?page=143

This is very interesting since we talked about if the feuerwehr smurf with red nozzle and keychain was made for the Fasnet and the gmunder firedepartment during the fasnet.

I contacted the gmunder fasnet asking them regarding the firemansmurf.

I got these answers.

First answer:

"Hallo Andre,

I got interested regarding the thing about that Bully had given away smurfs. Therefore I asked a bit more.

They answered this:

"Hallo,

also ich bin seit 1986 dabei…. Es muss weit früher gewesen sein….

Wann aber genau kann ich nicht sagen.

Wenn Sie wollen kann ich bei der Feuerwehr nachfragen ob die noch einen Feuerwehrschlumpf haben."

So I said I would love if they could check with the firedepartment.

And they confirmed that it was made for them according to this answer:

It must have been in 1981. At that time Schleich also made the keychain-houses for Fasnet. So it seems correct.

What do you Think?

We talked about this Before but then it was Another collector telling me this after been talking to a woman at Gmunder Fasnet.

Last answer:

"diese Schlümpfe wurden mal hergestellt, gefühlt so 1980.

Hier 2 Bilder von dem mir bekannten Exemplar."

The Picture were of the red nozzle fireman.

Here is mine. But it lost the keychain.
