Hi,

This is actually the first time I have seen a old picture of the Applause variation of the baby with pastel coloured blocks. The picture is from 1987, so only 2 years after it was sold in July 1985. One of the 2 last smurfs sold by applause then.

I love to have pictures of it, since the catalogue have them as drawings.

Hi Andre

Here it is, one of my all time favourites when it comes to colour differences............... :-D

A real one is easy to recognize by the marking :D

yes frank,

as said before the limited edition smurfs were not marked applause or W berrie.

I believe all the 16 smurfs made for this series were first marked made in Hongkong or were meant to be made in Hongkong. On some of these the hongkong is replaced by macau.

Maybe the last one never was made though??? since I have not seen the baby with Butterfly with the similair marking??? Have anyone seen that marking on the baby with butterfly?

Here you see what I mean, for those who have not checked this. :-? :D

Many of us have the Macau-marked baby with icelolly and when only checking the macau marking it looks like nothing is blocked.

But if you check under the peyo marking, you see that it was originally marked hongkong. :D

I looked into this a few years ago: to my knowledge Tintin no-one has ever had the butterfly with Macau (or HK)........I hope I am wrong!!!!

The HK smurf for the ice lolly baby is in Tine's colection!! Very very HTF!!!

Hi

I could be wrong about the butterfly. It could be the HK that i am confused with.

And it seems i am wrong again with the marking from the baby blocks.

Sorry guys !!!!

Hi again Frank!!

here they are.

Dyar has this also with green block.

This one is a bit strange though since it seems it also is a variation marked Applause. Do you have that?? Or anyone else have a markingpicture?? I have seen it on both Gerdas and Dyars sites.

the pastel one was the one sold in the limited series though. :-D

That could mean that applause used it the same time in the babies series also or later with these more common colours??? :-?

Hi

Well if i found a HK baby blocks on a fair it's always the HK with Applause.
And the pastel blocks i have seen always only HK.
That's why i thought there were no others...............

Here a baby with green block HK and Applause, did you mean this one ??

Thanks Frank,

I don´t think I have that one.

When checking the markings on my HK-marked ones, it is impossible that the applause marking was there first. This means this was added after the limited series.

Strange they added Applause on this one???? :-?

By the way, where is the cavitynumber. It usually is under hongkong.

Regarding the blue block baby it was probably the first variation painted in Germany. Since the Jubileumsmurfs sold in autumn 1985 had those colours. The green ones I think where painted in Sri Lanka in the beginning!! :-? :D

probably Applause sold that baby in some way between 1986 and 1990, using the same mold. That is probably also the reason you can find it painted like that without Applause. :D

Great info Frank!

Blue block is also shown in the book, Schleich sold 1986, with pictures probably taken in 1985. So we know the blue block was early.

But as with many of the jubileumsmurfs they during these years used both Hongkong-made and German-made smurfs. Do you have a german-marked one without red dot, with green blocks and jubileummarking?

Maybe they changed the colours during these years??? :-?

Hi Andre

Here one with green block jubileum.

I don't think it's a colour dot because the red on the left foot is not nice round and is on the same site as the red block. So i think a painterror.
Besides, i got 2 green block smurfs with red dot and that dot is always on the right foot.
Maybe another clue for you, one of these Germany green block with red dot baby's has a handcut CE on his bum :-D

My guess is that you have one painted in Sri lanka Frank?? :-?

I have a couple of the red dot babies and the dot can be on both feets.

Also the fact that you say the red dot can have handcut CE tells us they were used later. Eventhough the amounts of unwanted smurfs still in stock during the years after 1986 tells us many smurfmarkings made then could have been added the handcut CE when they sold them closer to the 90s?? :D :-?
