Hi Attom,
I have a small postal scale at home that I got at Walmart and I buy my domestic postage thru paypal, which also includes the delivery confirmation. I don't think I have overcharged anybody so far, at least nobody complained so far....
I went to the USPS online for international shipping rates to make myself a chart that I keep handy, and also put the packages on the scale and estimate the prize.... If I do overcharge by a lot (more than $1.00) I usually grant the buyer a refund, especially if they pay very fast....
However, I have noticed that on international shipping I often undercharge, which is fine, because I'd rather do that than overcharge...
I never thought about getting an estimate directly from the post office until this weekend when I bought two smurfs from Dyar, and he told me what he was doing... that is a really great way to not over or under charge
.. However, I usually like to post the shipping charge on the listing so there won't be any bad surprises later on, and I also always get a lot of inquiries from international bidders while the auction is on..... the main reason for me to estimate the shipping cost is, that I live 10 miles from a small post office that somehow always charges about 10% more than the main office in Chattanooga which is 50 miles away from home. These 10% are worth the trip though for me, especially since I work in Chattanooga, but they also keep me from going there "just for a rate"
(sorry, for the long post, didn't intend to make it that wordy
)
Good luck on your auctions, Attom
Maureen
