........ be sure to stop off at Exeter!!!!

My in-laws visited the Quays (waterfront) area of Exeter a month or so ago and told about me about an antique shop full of Smurfs - but they didn't buy any as they didn't know what I had :banghead:

So last week - when we had a week's holiday planned in Whiddon Down (very small and quaint with lots of sheep :sheep:) the curiosity got the better of us and we popped up to Exeter - and there were loads of them!!!!! :woohoo:

Prices were pretty steep - I guess the sellers knew the market - but I couldn't resist the following. Esp the white hockey player & baseball catcher which I've wanted for ages. Plus 2 small smurf buttons which are very cute and I've never seen before.

All I have to do now is persuade the other half to have a long weekend in Exeter...... ideally very soon!

Hope someone from this forum is able to pop into Exeter and take a look. Let me know if you need more info on where to find it.

That is wonderful to hear Cathy, Thanks for letting us know. :-D

Good to see you picked yourself up some nice smurfs and a lovely sockel too.

Shame Tojo didn't know about this as I know he is currently visiting Devon on a family holiday. You never know, maybe he might pop in here if he gets the chance. :D

Hi Cathy, I'd love to know where you found the smurfs in Exeter. I was there on Wednesday while staying my parents in Torquay for 2 weeks. Unfotunately I've only just read this :( but I'd still love to know where you saw them - for next year's visit. I know Exeter really well as I lived there for 2 years & love the place. Now I'm back in Germany I wish I'd visited the forum - oh well :-?

Hi Tojo,

Welcome back from your travels - and I'm sorry you missed this post!! :banghead:

The antique shop was down on the waterfront area. The area was called the Quays and it looks like there's a lot of refurbishment being done there. We parked at the carpark for the cathedral and it was only a 5-10 minute walk.

The antique place itself is a white building with a tea room and itsn't very big - but they pack loads in. A lot of is toys and small collectibles - so it's easy to fit lots in a small space.

I've included a pic which shows the shop in the background on the right. Not quite sure why we took a b&w shot - maybe we were feeling arty at the time...... :scratchinghead:

(they also lots of place to buy ice-creams....)

Enough of my ramblings. Hope this makes sense and you know where I mean! :D

Thanks Cathy! I remember the building well. I used to go down to the Quays with friends in the evening to eat a huge pizza & drink Newquay Steam beer. That was before they'd built the yuppy flats opposite the old warehouses. There was always a great atmosphere there in the evening. I'll have to pop down there next summer....

Hi Cathy

I don't want to alarm you but I think you just captured a pic of the infamous Quay Loch Monster in the right corner of that pic.....might be worth quite a few promo smurfs if you cash it in somewhere.

Dyar

PS - Just remember who pointed it out to you ok :D

Woah! I've just noticed it too. That pregnant guy seems to have seen it as well :o We must get on to the Exeter Tourist board. Maybe if they market this properly there'd be enough profits left over to pay for smurfs for everyone. Hooray :-D
