Hi all :wave2:

Andy's sister-in-law is as Southampton Uni - she received this email today:

Subject: Southampton students set sights on Guinness Book of Records

To all Southampton University students,

This is your time! It is now, more than ever, that you can do your part as
a proud student of Southampton University!

We have heard news that the University of Chester, yes i know, Chester!?
Have managed to break and are now the new holders of the record for the
most people dressed as Smurfs. The bar has been raised! 884. It is
Southampton's turn!

On March the 3rd, at The Cube, Southampton are going for it - 1000 Smurfs!
It is an official Guinness World Record Attempt and you can be part of it.
This chance is only coming around once, with the event being dubbed the
'Smurf Party', the adventure begins at 9pm!

The event is being held to raise funds for the Prince's Trust charity. It
is only £4 at the box office for this one-off experience, with all ticket
sales going to the charity. It WILL be epic!

BBC, ITV, and The Paul O'Grady Show are all expected to cover the event,
with interest from newspapers and other independent reporters, we can show the UK that Southampton is a force not to be reckoned with.

Be there, be a world record holder.

Yours,

Team Tailor Made

Only 720 smurfs showed up....doesn't look like they will be in the Guiness Book of World Records :???: I thought the current record was 884 but these students are under the impression it was 451 and they have broken it. Who knows but the video is quite funny :) :)

SOUTHAMPTON turned blue last night as more than 700 students dressed up as Smurfs to break an obscure world record.

More than two months of organisation by four students from the University of Southampton came to fruition as 720 people dressed as the loveable cartoon characters filled The Cube nightclub at the university's Highfield campus.

They smashed the record of 451 people dressed as Smurfs held by Warwick University.

James Duncan, Anthony Johnson, Dominic Pitt and Tom Saunders organised the event to raise cash for the Prince's Trust as part of the charity's World Wealth Creation Challenge.

James said: "We were really driven to break the record and it's paid off. We feel even more proud to be Southampton University students now."

The Prince's Trust challenge sees students from ten UK universities try to raise as much money for the charity as possible from November until the end of March.

The prize for the team that raises the most cash is a gala evening at a top London restaurant.

Organisers have applied to the Guinness World Record Company to make sure the record attempt is official.

I Think some of those smurfs look more like they have bandaged heads than smurf hats on :)

We had a work social last week where I attempted the world record... unfortunately we (I) was 884 smurfs short of the record (a near miss by any standard) but here is a photo of our (my) attempt.

Unfortunately due to having rubber bloves from the first aide course I just did, I got the name "Prostate Smurf"... so bend over and cough!
