How can I become a disciplined smurfer?
Those two words should never ever go together
Here's another
topicabout budgeting for smurfs as well -- it kind of answers maybe one of your questions

Thanks, Staci. I didn't realise that this topic had already been aired.
I found Mo's topic very interesting and I have concluded that erratic smurf buying has, at some point, affected most of us.
I really am going to have to try and be sensible in future. Staci, the way you do things seems to work really well and you have still managed to obtain a wonderful smurf collection. I love your 'smurf express' - where did you get it?

Well, I have slowed down quite a bit in the last two weeks...I think I haven't signed on to ebay for at least 2 or 3 days which translates into 2 or 3 months in everybody else terms
It does help having other things to save up for, like a trip or wanting to finally have a laptop
I do believe that I am getting where I will no longer spend so much on anything smurfy, unless I really like it or it is really cheap (like that huge lot the other day)

I love your 'smurf express'
I love it too

I got it off ebay...I was the only bidder because it was local pickup only and I luckily only lived about 40 minutes away from the seller. He is an avid train collector and he bought the Express about 20 years ago at a flea market in Pennsylvania and used it for a crib for his daughter. After she was out of it (LOL), he displayed his trains on it but he was running out of room, so he put it on ebay. His basement was completely finished and it looked like a train museum - it was that nice

About 2 weeks after that auction, there was another on ebay in Arizona for another train that matched but wasn't exactly the same. No one bid on that one either and I was so unhappy that it was across the country....I even contacted trucking companies for pricing on bringing it out East but it was outrageously expensive! I've never seen another Express since then though - going on 2 years now.

Uhm, can't really say... if I do an average, it'll probably amount to 4 or 5 per year... considering I haven't bought any for many many years!
However, since I got the woodchopper about 3 weeks ago, I've gotten 9 more, and 3 are on the way.
As for how much I'm spending, not much about 1,4 to 4 euros (the new ones at the store) per smurf. I try to hold 1 regular smurf at the price of about 2,7 euros, if it's more I'll let it go. But then again, I have yet so many to get, that I can let the more expensive ones slip by to others who are willing to pay more.

Hi Sharon, I go through phases of going mad and then being good but this is generally dictated by spare cash.
I haven't been buying much lately because I am trying to save a bit for the upcoming fair but also there have been other things I have needed to buy for work and I haven't had too much time to look for smurfs but I am sure this will change in time.

One of the worst things when you no longer buy tons of smurfs each day is, that you no longer have the highlight of the daily mail delivery
Questions like
Will she drive up the drive way today because the package is too big for the mail box?
What will be in the mail today?
Will it arrive today?
What in the world did I buy from that seller?
Will the mail lady be nice to me today?
What was I thinking when I bought THAT?
questions like these become meaningless and just...well...they no longer arise when you no longer expect any packages in the mail
Now it is more like...oh mail has run...I guess I can leave it in the box til tomorrow
Receiving 8 DVDs or DVD sets from Amazon does help a bit getting over the drought though

I haven't bought much on ebay for the last 12 or more months but at the moment I have won a couple of things. I have a small quick goal of trying to get all of the Australian sockels. I have about 5 more to get and if I get those it would be a great achievement for the year I think.
Otherwise I seem to have patches of buying and patches of.......um....not buying I guess.
If you go back to just over 12 months I would of considered myself a full time buyer as I was probably buying at least 1-2 smurfs per day....and that was kind of a quiet day for me.

Remember the days when Dyar got his big packages ?

Um....I don't think everyone here has had the same opportunities that you've had Mr Beers.....but thank you for the compliment anyway
Dyar
PS - I remember.......those were the days. More smurfs than I could poke a stick at. Bring back the old days please.

Maybe if you stopped poking your smurfs with sticks, you'd get more big packages

Hi Sharon
I go through phases, sometimes it feels like I've gone overboard and then other times I'm lucky to by 2 smurfs in a month.
Like in the last 2 or 3 months I think I've only purchased one smurf and that was only because I put it in my ebay watchlist and forgot about it but my partner bid and won it for me
Also because I've finished my basic collection I'm on the lookout for ceramics and plush smurfs etc.. so if they don't come up that often I'm not buying as much as usual.

Wow, Raelene!! You have collected all the regulars and supers? Does this include all the variations as well?
What about all the promo smurfs? Do you collect those?
