they will produce by themself... I'm 100% sure... sometimes you will find the W.Germany or Hong Kong markings on them... I have now stopped collecting these fakes.. IMO they are worthless

Good poll Tine !

I think these mexicans are interesting at times, but at other times, i think they are not so much nice, but awful ! :D

:-D

I have some mexican fake smurfs in my collection, but I don´t know why...these "raws" are suspicious for me... :D :D

.. IMO they are worthless
:iagree:

These types look completely new to me...especially when they have auctions with both types of Mexicans...the ones where they obviously look old and the paint is coming off and the perfect jelly/rubber type ones - these auctions make the latter ones look even newer. These are much nicer looking aesthetically I think but definitely not worth more than a few dollars.

If someone gave them to me then that'd be ok but I wouldn't spend money on them as there are far better smurfs to invest in imho

Nice poll Cheesy. :-D

Although I wouldn't mind a couple of these just to have some examples I personally don't intend to get many of these. I am also suspecting that many of these fakes that seem to be popping up at the moment look newly made. As for worth, I hope they do stay at a very cheap value because otherwise it is just going to encourage yet more fakes in the future. :D

I don't have any Mexican smurfs but I couldn't say I would never buy one.

If I see a Mexican smurf I like, and its price matches how much I like it, then I would buy it. These ones on the links I don't like so much :???:

I like some fakes but I think they have to still be well made for me to be interested. I have some Argentinian minimodels recently and some CNT's which I like :D . I have some other Spanish fakes which are trash and heading for the bin - a bad buy

I wonder what Attom will think reading this thread... :o :) ;)

A few days ago I got my first Mexican smurf and really like him. Of course I would never spend much money on them, but I wouldn't say they are worthless for me. When just talking about the Mexican fakes with my mother, she has shown me, that she still has got a Mexican fake for me to give me sometime with a "Norel" marking on his head . That makes the fakes even more interesting and show that at least some of them were made a long time ago...And I think it's clearly to recognise, how old those fakes are:

http://cgi.ebay.de/RARE-BOOTLEG-SMURFS- ... dZViewItem

Isn't the tennis smurfette great..?
By the way...What differs the Mexican from the Polish fakes besides the fact, that the Polish ones aren't produced anymore (for sure?)? Wouldn't you have been interested in the Polish fakes 20 years ago when they were mass produced in Poland? Why do you still buy the actual Schleich-smurfs, although they are quite "wothless" now? Are you sure, that the Mexicans will still be produced in 10 years..?

But, the main reason for me to like these fakes is easily: They are from Mexico. And I love looking on my collection and saying: These are from Spain, these smurfs from Argentina and there are some from Mexico. :D

So, I would say: I wouldn't mind to buy Mexican smurfs if the price is not too high. But there are some fakes being sold for a too high price recently... :-?

I quite like the look of the transparent Mexican rohlinge but I have no doubt they are newly made fakes as most people would know anyway. I do agree that there are older Mexican smurfs which are super cool and harder to find which I think are very special.

I know Christy has some beautiful transparent ones which look great under the lights so I guess it all comes down to personal taste. As for me...I like them but I am not planning on going out of my way to collect them as I have too many other preferences that I prefer to concentrate on like variations, promos & travelling when I get a chance.

Hi, everyone!!!!!An interesting discussion!!!!!!I think we are all agree in two points:

-all the smurfs are nice and never mind if they are old or new...
-each one can pay the amount he consider just, and this is the real value of a smurf...If I pay 100 euros for a smurf, it is because I really like it, but if I think 10 euros is too much for another smurf it si because I think I can get this smurf cheaper, or because I am not really intersted in having it

As Simon says, all about polish smurfs is similar...I have old polish smurfs and the newset polish smurfs...The difference???Well, if they are new, it is easy to get them for a low price, but if they are not in production, they are old, they are harder to get...But both are lovely

I would like to explain better what I think, but remember my english is :banghead:

PS: perhaps someone can be confussed: Cnt smurfs are not licensed smurfs, but Argentina Minimodels are licensed (most of them have the markings Schleich too) :D :D :

well, I think they are worth to collect if you collect fakes, but I wouldn't spend much money on them...

I have been known to spend a busload of money on stuff that others deem worthless but then also to getting rarer smurfs for a good deal, so for me personally the question isn't so much how much is a smurf worth but how much is it worth to me and how hard have I been trying to get it in the past ......and how much money do I have at the moment

I do have my one transparent smurf and probably overspent on it, but I do like it a lot, so I don't mind having spent that much on it. This doesn't I will get others unless I find them for a good deal, but like it has been said above, I like to have at least one example of the different smurfs and it is a great object to compare it to others. I do prefer CNTs over the Mexicans but as I said before ..if I like a particular smurf I will try to get it and often forget to put a price limit on it...

But would I spend money on the ones in the link? Nope, I wouldn't...even if I wasn't on a Sabbatical from ebay right now...simple because I don't like them :D

I agree with you on that. There are a lot of different smurfs that have been difficult to get and it does depend on how much you want a particular one on a particular date with a particular amount to spend on it too. I have only stated my opinion in the newer looking transparent ones are not worth all the money being spent on them at the moment because they look to be easily made and could overinflate the value of the cheaper fakes like Rach pointed out.

I think worth is definately in the eye of the beholder. Some of our collections may in fact have market value - but we all know how mercurial that can be. If you love it, or even like it...it's not worthless. :smitten:

Hi Tine, Thanks for posting these links, it is very interesting to see the description. :-D

Now we just have to work out which 5 year old has been making them. :)
