This is what I have recorded, and can prove:
Excellent quality for 243 episodes, 6 specials, 1 movie
Poor quality for 10½ episodes
Missing 8½ episodes, 1 special
Total of 262 half-hour episodes, 6 specials, and 1 movie

Most of those episode guides in books and online are really off too, by the way. Lots of shorts are mixed around, episodes out of order, etc.

Anybody have one of these on a tape somewhere?

I can´t prove anything, but I´m very interested in this series. I took notes from TV during seasons 1 and 2 a lot of years ago, and I´ve collected a lot of information from some webs and a book during last years. I agree with you: there are a lot of mistakes or episodes out of order in all the episode guides I´ve seen. I´ve tried to put them in order, and according my conclusions (I can be wrong, of course), there are 272 half-hour episodes, including specials.

About your list:
- "All Hallows' Eve" is also called "Smurfs´Halloween Special".
- "Smurfquest" has 3 half-hour parts (2 parts of 22 min. and 2 parts of 11 min.).
- The second part of "Smurf on the Wild Side" is a short episode (11 min).
- "Chlorhydris' Lost Love", "Sassette's Hive" and "A long tale for Grandpa" are long episodes (22 min.).
