It's this time of year again..and time for the annual question..

What has been your smurfiest purchase/addition to your smurf collection in 2011?

Mine has been this sockel which I found hidden in a smurf lot on ebay, and which I (much to my surprise) actually won for a surprisingly low amount.

Awesome pieces Maureen and Max!! :-D

This year has been very special and I have been lucky to find some items, maybe not that valuable but special, from persons from the history. I got a few pieces from a employee at Schleich, who now is dead, and some of the pieces were given to him directly from Herman Schneider.

And now I have got smurf-items from another person involved in the history. Also this person is unfortunatly dead now. I got the items from his wife. Because he was the president of a big assossiation, his wife and he was invited and joined the launching of the smurfs in Hongkong in 1979. I will get back with pictures, hopefully with one or two from 1979/80, and more information regarding this later. :-D

Max....fantastic...and you are right..the year isn't over yet, is it? :)

TinTin, I still need those boxes as well...what a lovely addition :-D

Andre...I am very curious what you got...great that you were able to get into contact with Schleich employees or their family and were able to add some Schleich history to your collection

What is that McDonald smurf, Lia? I have not seen this before. Do you know the history of it or when it was released?

Love the house and of course still need it :) :)

Thanks! :D

The story behind this rare promo was that people could buy it and that the money was used to help raising Germany`s first Ronald McDonald house in Giessen ( I believe around 1986)

Do you know if others were sold like this..and does this one have the M on the back of the hat as well or is it a Schleich one (as far as you can tell thru the plastic).

No, there is no M on the hat.
Just last week, I managed to find another one,the gardener with rake

both smurfs are made in hongkong, w.berrie co

(the smurfs with M on the hat started in 1996, I think, these are from 1986, at least, that`s the year that the Ronald McDonald house in Giessen was opened)

Postby André » Sun Nov 27, 2011 12:01 pm
Seems correct Lia, since tha paper says:

"Viel Spass mit dem Schlumpf wünscht Ihnen
Ihr Ronald McDonald Haus
- Familienzentrum für krebskranke Kinder Giessen e. V."

And you can find this information on their website:

"1985 konnte durch Mithilfe von Sponsoren und Spendern ein Haus in der Friedrichstrasse erworben werden. Nach einigen Um- und Anbauarbeiten wurde es im Mai 1986 als Familienzentrum seiner Bestimmung übergeben."

Also in 1985 and 1986 they used many HK smurfs in Europe because of the dramatic drop of demand in US.
