Just wanted to share this photo. I was searching smurfs and found a website called Plaid Stallions.com and they have a feature showing photos of toy stores in America in the 70's and also in the 80's. There is 1 photo which features a smurfs display of toys selling. It says these smurfs are in a store called Intellitoys in Los Angeles California October 1982.

I can see at least 3 windmills! couple of smurf game boards, the smurf plush, some playsets.. very cool. I'm always trying to search for photos of BP service stations from the 80's to find pics of smurfs selling in the stores but have never found any photos. There has to be some photos out there somewhere.

Thanks Brad.

I love these type of photos. But it is a shame I can´t read what is written on the boxes. If it is a W. Berrie-windmillbox or the german one??? :)

If you find more pictures I would love to see more of them in this thread. :-D

I can see the W. Berrie catalogues from 1982 on one shelf and in this catalogue there are no windmill so I guess it is this germanmade box on the picture.

its hard to see in the photo. Wish we could jump into the photo and take a good look at all the smurfs selling on the display. :-D Hard to make out what is on the shelves. Depends what kind of store this is. If it was a major toy store or toy department or a small shop. I don't know that they'd be seeling german boxed windmills in America??

I know they used german-boxes for the american market also. As shown on pictures before from the W. Berrie catalogues, there are germanboxes in this catalogue but with stickers on them with english writing.

And in this case with the windmill-box, you already have the english writing on one side of the box. So I am pretty sure they used it in the US. Unless W. Berrie made their own Windmill( never seen any HK WB marked one), then they probably would make a box also, right?

Do anyone recognize the small mushroom cottage on the middleshelf?

yeah I think they are the ceramic smurfs. Looks like a whole line of Jokey smurf with present and this looks like the house (taken from Dyars website) Image

Looking around on that website I've found a 1983 Toy Catalog for Simpsons, a Canadian department chain.

Yea Tojo that would be great. I copied the pic and put it on my computer this way I can enlarge it. I'm pretty sure that is the ceramic bank on that shelf there also are some coffee cups and plates, and several rows of the ceramic figures. I can make out 5 of the jokey ceramic to the left of the house looks like several other beside it but I can't make them out. I can make out several hearts but can't tell which ones (I LOVE YOU) ceramics. I think there are a couple more on the other side of the house. I can also make out a boat playset, Well playset and garden playset. I can only see two windmills unless thats one behind the writing.

Bill,

in front of the boat playset I think there is a snail carriage without the box. These 4 playsets where the only ones made by W. Berrie 1982, so it is likely to be these boxes. The third windmill is under the letter "a" in Stallion I guess??

Hi Andre' I can see the snail playset, but I didn't notice it until you mentioned it. And I think you are also right about the 3rd windmill. I looked forever before I found that.

it's like playing a game of wheres waldo in that picture. I find it interesting that this one store sold so many different things on one shelf, seems to me a bit unorganized as I would think keeping ceramics on a shelf with loose stamps and pvc items would surely lead to breakage. :-?
happily smurfing along
