Just a personal update

As some of you know, I've been dealing with some health issues in the last few months, which got a bit worse in the last few weeks and I have not been on the forum as much as I normally am.

Thought I give you a quick update on everything. I've been dealing with some severe bleeding issues since October which left me so weak, that taking a shower exhausted me to the point I had to lay down before drying myself off, or having to lay down on the stairs after a walk with the dogs while they ate.

In January, I was diagnosed with anemia and had to go to an oncologist (I think that's the correct term for blood doctors) who took a lot of blood samples and ruled out cancer..but said the anemia is due to iron definiency. My stored iron was at a 4 when it should be at a 100. He immediately put me on weekly iron infusions. The blood loss did not decrease so unfortunately the blood level did not increase as much as I hoped.

Today, I had to undergo an outpatient surgery (my first time of being put to sleep) during which several cysts were discovered that did not show up on an ultrasound and surprised the doctor. Not something you want to hear and I am now anxiously awaiting the results of the samples to find out if they are benign (non-cancerous) or well..let's not go there now :).

These cysts will grow back and depending how fast they grow I will have to undergo major surgery sometime in the future. Again, I am not thinking of it right now.

I am going back on Tuesday to the blood doctor to see how today's surgery has affected my blood count..obviously I am praying it has not impacted it negatively and I am soon released from the weekly iron infusions.

The good news is that they did an EKG on Monday on me to see how my heart functions..and the EKG was perfect...heart disease runs in my family so this was a huge relief:D

Anyway, just a not so quick update on what has been going on and why I have not always been that much around.

At least I am strong enough to buy smurfs :) :)

Dear Moey,

I sincerely hope that you get back on your feet again. Hang on there, I'm always on your side. You know, I was diagnosed with iron definiency some years ago. Back then, I had to take some medicine, but in the end, I felt much better.

I was thinking of you today Maureen & really hope that the cysts are harmless. That's good news about the EKG results :D (I really must have another checkup myself as I have slightly raised blood pressure.).

My thoughts are with you & I really hope that the doctors can get to grips with your anemia & that you are feeling fit & strong again asap

Thank you everybody...I am doing surprisingly well after the surgery, although I had a bit of a setback today. I returned to work yesterday (and today) and probably overdid it a bit :) :)

I just wanted to give you a very general update.
I received the results from the surgery on Friday and they weren't good. They found cancerous cells in the tissue, which means I have been diagnosed with uterine cancer. That's the organ where the babies grow.

I don't know any details, only that my case may be unusual as I am one of the youngest women the doctor has seen diagnosed with this cancer. They are trying to get me in with a cancer specialist as soon as possible (hopefully today)...and the next step is major surgery. After the surgery they will be able to determine how far the cancer has advanced and what other treatment I need.

While I recover from the surgery, I probably won't be around as much...but should be around again as I get to feeling stronger..just not sure when exactly that is going to be.

Maureen, this is bad news indeed but hopefully the cancer has been identified early enough so that the operation will be a success. I shall be crossing everything I can & my thoughts are with you

The most important thing right now is yourself so we'll all understand that you're away from the forum for while.

Good luck & think positively & optimistically

So Sorry to hear this Maureen. Please take care and I hope all goes well with your surgery. Hopefully they can get all of it with the surgery and you don't have to go through chemo. I had to have a hysterectomy 8 years ago for tumors. Luckily mine weren't cancer but they took everything anyway. You are on the top of the list of prayers!
