Here are the 51904 smurfs I have.

Portugal without CE and the with CE in 2 variations. Later very shiny variation of all the colours. And the red colour on the scarfs are very different on these smurfs.

But as said 2 markings are the same.

Hongkong markings.

These 3 smurfs, 51901, 51903 and 51905, seems to be pretty common with the Hongkongmarkings and could have been sold for a bit longer time compared to the other Hongkongmarked ones.

Here you can see that this is the only of the Christmassmurfs with cords that got the China marking like this. So blocked Portugal and added China. Exactly the same markings otherwise.

I do not have the Portugal CE but I Believe the marking is just like the China one but Portugal instead.

I do not have the Hongkong variation of the 51909 smurf.

And I think the Portugal CEvariation of this smurf can be both shiny like mine and more matte like mine without CE. My guess is that both the shiny CE variations were sold together with the China ones.

These 2 last corded christmassmurfs from China is a bit odd. Since I do not know the articlenumbers. Were they sold as part of the 51950display or just corded and the articlenumbers 20124 and 20153?? :-? :D

I do not have the corded santa but it is the same as the one with the smaller China marking.

Both have the marking M. China.

Dyar also has this as a corded chinamarked christmassmurf. So this is from Dyars site.

I have 2 red material china ce germany André, (one came with the german Displaybox)
Lia,

did you get more Chinamarked ones with that display?

Was it the display on the picture?

Schleich used the same Picture for these smurfs in the catalogues all the way to 2001 so it is hard to say when they started with the Chinamarked ones.

regarding the years of these smurfs I found this Picture also of Another W Berrie christmas ornaments display.

As you remember I thought that some of these smurfs were sold earlier than the other ones.

My guess is this:

In Christmas 1981 this display was used. Then with only 6 corded smurfs for sale.

The years could be wrong so it could be 6 smurfs sold for Christmas 1982?

Anyway I think only 6 of them were sold the first year and then they added 6 more for the next years Christmas.

BUT I do not Think it was only the Hongkongmarked ones sold the first year. My guess is that the The first 6 also were Portugalmarked ones and they added Hongkongmarked ones later. just like they added Chinamarked ones in the end of production.

That also goes well with the markings. :-? :D

So the first year they only sold 6 smurfs and used this display. :-D

This could of course be completly wrong but one of the reasons I Think they were sold like that, together with the displays, are these 12 smurfs I got together from a US collector many years ago with other smurfs, displays etc.

All the first 6 smurfs have the exact same lightblue paint. And all the next 6 smurfs have the exact same darker blue paint. Almost like the Hongkong ones. It is not that easy to see on the Picture though. :banghead:

I Think the first 6 were sold for Christmas 1981 and the last 6 were added for Christmas 1982.

What do you Think?

Do you Think there were 9 ornaments sold the first year and 3 added the next year? That could also be correct? :-? :-D That goes well with the markings also since only the 3 last ones have W berrie markings. :o
