Hi everyone,

I have been reading information from National/BP and I can now say that the Strikersmurfs were made for National to be sold just after the FA Cup Final in May 1979. These were delivered in April 1979. And they were painted in the colors of the semifinalists in the FA Cup. Liverpool, Manchester United, Wolverhampton and Arsenal.

The 2 other teams possible are Nottingham and Southampton. That is because they played the League Cup Final at Wembley in March 1979 just when these were made for National. The semifinals in the FA Cup were played 31th March 1979.

I am 100% these are the only 6 correct teams and no more teams are possible. Only colours matching these teams are possible to find in this promotion. :D

If you have the white and black also, you should be able to display both the semifinals with correct colours.

Like Martin wrote to me:

"League Cup Final 1979

Nott Forest versus Southampton (red/white versus white with red stripes)

FA cup semi final 1979

Aresnal vs Wolves (red/white vs black/orange)

Liverpool vs Scum (red/red vs BLACK/WHITE)

FA cup final 1979

Arsenal vs Scum (blue/yellow vs red/white/black)

So, you have all the colours explained................................”

Scum is in "Martinpedia" the same as Manchester United.

So try to get some spare ones and then you can display all 4 matches correct. :-D

Oh it's nice to know that the black/white soccer player belongs to the UK ones as well.

Since black/white was also the color of the German national team I thought it's for them, but it didn't make sense that other great soccer nations from the 70s/80s didn't get a smurf if Germany did (I guess that's why I thought the yellow one could be Sweden..but this didn't make much sense either as Spain/Argentinia/Italy were bigger back then).

I also couldn't figure out how the British teams were chosen, since I didn't know much about them, except for Manchester United, Liverpool (the team I hated nearly as much as Bayern Munchen back then :o) and Arsenal.

Thank you so much for posting it here as well, Andre..and it's nice to put this one in the books....really appreciate it your hard work and your sharing it

Regarding the white/black soccer I am not sure about that one yet.

If anyone has one with dot on shirt please email me pictures so I can confirm. :?

If you look at Christys site here: http://www.christysbluevillage.com/coll ... t&group=47

remove the last one. Orange/white.

The first 6 teams are exactly as she writes UK teams. all have dots on shirts and Schleich-markings. Either on arm or together with year on the shorts.

The white/black and orange/white were sold before these, even in Sweden. Then with only W Germany and Peyo. For me those are variations made for the 1978 final. Holland and Germany. But that is me guessing so far. :D

Anyway I would wait with calling the black/white a UK team. :-? :D

I am sure you will find the answer to that as well...it's fun that there is still a mystery left, isn't it?

There are many mysteries left to figure out, Maureen! Especially with all strange promos.

By the way regarding the soccers.

I found a genuine National picture of the soccer with red ball from march 1979( picture probably taken in 1978). And as I said before when I got it from the UK, it is a early variation. Pre the dot system. Probably sold for a short time and seems to be most common, still very rare though, in the UK. That also is a 100% genuine variation sold by Schleich. :-D

Thanks André, that is very helpful, especially for people like me who don't care about football and have no interest on it !
But I must find some of them now... to complete the collection.

Thanks Lia! Looking forward checking them and especially your strange unmarked papas. :-D

André, could you finally decide if the white shirt black shorts and black dot on chest smurf belongs to the FA cup serie ?
